It’s been a minute since AC Cars announced its reborn Cobra GT Roadster. Specifically, it debuted in 2023 as a modern open-roof sports car wrapped in classic Cobra styling. Beneath the skin is a V8 powertrain lifted from the Ford Mustang, and being a specialty vehicle, production is capped at 250 per year. Now, those initial production cars are finally ready for primetime.
The first cars have left the company’s production center, according to AC Cars. The initial run will be the special Edition 63 versions sporting an AC Blue exterior finish in honor of AC Cars’ victory at Le Mans in 1963. Curiously, images sent with the latest announcement feature a red Cobra GT Roadster, but the takeaway is that the company is ready for series production.
Classic British Styling Meets Swedish Precision
At this time, it’s unclear exactly how many cars have been built. Additionally, it’s unclear where these initial production cars were built. AC Cars has facilities in the UK but is also working with a company based in Sweden called T-engineering. It’s actually something of a holdover from the Saab days, formed by former Saab engineers and affiliated with China’s Dongfeng Motor Group. It has production capability along with facilities in the UK, so this iconic British sports car could be a product of Sweden.
CarBuzz contacted AC Cars for comment on production numbers and location, but a reply wasn’t immediately received. We’ll jump in with an update if more information becomes available.
“This is a day to remember, and the completion of the first production AC Cobra GT Roadsters is a monumental achievement. I’m immensely proud of what the company has achieved and the continued support and enthusiasm that our clients have shown.”
– AC Cars CEO David Conza
Classic Cobra Style With Big Horsepower
If the final product is as good in person as it is on paper, the Cobra GT Roadster should definitely be worth the wait. Though it looks like the classic two-seater from the 1960s, this version is new from the ground up. The aluminum space frame is actually a bit bigger overall, creating more room in the cockpit. A bank of traditional gauges and switches in the interior is complemented with a digital display. And as for that Mustang-sourced powertrain, it’s a 5.0-liter Coyote V8 connected to either a six-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic gearbox. Naturally aspirated, it makes 454 horsepower or you can get it supercharged with 654 hp. In a 3,200-pound car, that should be all kinds of giddy fun.

One Cobra, Multiple Flavors To Choose From
A V8 Roadster isn’t the only configuration, either. AC Cars has plans to offer a four-cylinder version, or you can get the Cobra GT Coupe with a hard roof and nearly 800 hp to play with. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves a bit. The rebooted company is only now getting Cobra GT Roadster production rolling. Expect to hear more about other variants in the future.
Reservations for the Cobra GT are open, but be prepared to pay dearly for one. Pricing in the UK starts at £213,000, not including VAT. The company also lists a US price of $276,792, though it’s unclear if or when such cars will be sent to North America.
