We’ve seen a lot of strange vehicles covering this business, but what Grind Hard Plumbing Co. is creating has got to be in at least the top ten of what we’ve seen. The crew at Grind Hard created its fair share of wild machines before this one, such as an off-road modified Tesla Model 3. But right now, the fabricators are constructing an enormous three-wheeler with giant tires. Plus, the driver will sit inside the front tire.
The Basics
The obvious highlight of the build is the mega-sized front wheel and tire. It’s a tractor tire that measures 80-inches in diameter. That obviously provides plenty of space in the middle where the crew is placing a seat, and eventually controls to operate the behemoth. The tires at the back are comparatively small, but still enormous 46-inch mud tires. Between the front and rear wheels will sit the engine.
Where It Gets Complicated
Getting all of this connected and operating is where things get complicated, especially considering some of the other things that Grind Hard wants this trike to do. Both ends will be able to steer, which is what the team works on in the latest video. Not only does Grind Hard want one engine, which will drive the rear wheels, it also wants an electric motor to provide power for the front wheel. And of course, the whole thing will have a wild custom tube frame and custom suspension parts.
Grind Hard has been posting videos of the project for a couple of months now, and it has made significant progress, as the whole thing stands on its own. Aspects of the powertrain are coming together, too. It will currently use a turbocharged diesel 2.0-liter Volkswagen four-cylinder, and power will go to the rear via a modified Humvee rear axle. Of course, there’s still plenty to do, with more suspension and chassis work, plus figuring out an additional powertrain.
