Corvette-Viper Hybrid Kit Car For Sale, Built On 1982 C3 Chevrolet

This, on the off chance you’ve misplaced your glasses or are currently recuperating from laser eye surgery, is not a poorly rendered knock-off of a C3-generation Chevrolet Corvette. What you’re actually looking at here is the ‘Corviperette’ (yes, that is actually its name), a 1982MY Corvette decked out in glassfiber replica bodywork of a first-generation Dodge Viper. And, not only is it road-legal, it could also be yours to buy for just over $16,000. Or perhaps even no money at all.

Whatever You Think Of The Way This Looks, It Grabs Attention

Currently listed on Facebook marketplace, the Corviperette is not, as the lister is keen to point out, a “kit car hack job,” but has instead been lovingly put together as a bespoke daily driver (“it’s actually well done”) that’s already completed more than 71,000 miles. Why, you are probably asking? For fun! And to be, in their own words, “the reason strangers at gas stations want a selfie.” That said, it doesn’t have the attention to detail of the Mercedes C11 replica we found last year.

While this is a Corvette underneath, the only badges you’ll find on the bodywork are the famous ‘Viper’ logo on the hood and the rear deck.

And it’s going to sell for over $100k.

Interestingly, rather than equipping this hybrid (technically, that’s what this is) with an 8.0-liter V10 that powered the original Viper in 1991, the build works around a 5.7-liter ‘Cross-Fire’ V8 that was also used to power select C3 generation Chevys between 1982 and 1984, but which was discontinued after an abortive attempt to power the C4-gen Corvette in 1984.

No specifics as to power and/or performance have been provided, save that the powertrain is “weird,” “wonderful,” and “it moves.” The fact that the original Cross-Fire was designed with fuel efficiency in mind probably stacks the cards against a blinding quarter-mile time, too, especially since it’s equipped with an automatic.

No Trades!… Unless You Have Something Equally As Mental To Offer

On the inside, the lister has gone for a digital dash and “1980s Corvette vibes.” That means lots, and lots, of wood-effect vinyl paneling and a cassette tape deck. ‘Corvette’ finally gets a mention too on the floor mats and the tachometer. By the way, if your bank balance is shy of $16,500, the lister is adamant about “no trades unless you’ve got something equally absurd.”

Who’s laughing now?

An E-Class with Civic and Hyundai styling could qualify, or perhaps a Honda Civic-based trike would be the sort of thing to capture this seller’s attention. Not wild enough? Perhaps the Audi R8-based LaFerrari is. Now, since we made you look at this terrifically terrible car, cleanse your eyes with the Viper this seller was trying to emulate.
