Kia EV4 Gets A Release Date And Range For America

Following the design reveal in February, Kia brought the 2026 EV4 to the New York Auto Show for its American debut. It didn’t just show the car again, though, it also revealed a bunch of information about features and specifications. The most impressive of those specifications is the electric range. Depending on the specifications, the EV4 will be Kia’s new range champion, succeeding the EV6.

More Range Or Less Cost

Kia is offering the EV4 with a choice of two battery packs. The headliner is the larger of the two, an 81.4-kWh pack. It’s available in two trims, either the mid-level Wind or the sporty-looking GT-Line (pictured). Kia only gave range numbers for the Wind, which is fitted with smaller, and likely more aerodynamic, 17-inch wheels, and it manages a whopping 330 miles of range. That’s 20 more than the longest-range EV6. The GT-Line, with its unique 19-inch wheels, will likely lose a few miles of range, but should still hover somewhere in the 300-mile ballpark. The other pack is a 58.3-kWh pack. This one is only offered on the Light trim, and returns 235 miles of range. Pricing wasn’t given, but this will certainly be the most affordable option, and likely by a significant margin.

Both battery packs are designed for the E-GMP platform, but they’re 400-volt packs, rather than the 800-volt packs in vehicles such as the EV6 and EV9. Maximum charging speeds weren’t given, but Kia estimates 10% to 80% charging times of 29 minutes for the smaller pack, and 31 minutes for the larger one. Both the shorter- and longer-range provide electricity to a single motor making 201 horsepower and powering the front wheels. Kia will also offer the EV4 with the ability to power various appliances and electronics.

The Hyundai Group is stepping up its EV game, starting with the Kia EV4.

Kia didn’t say anything about whether an EV4 GT would appear. Rumors have suggested a high-performance version of the car could be in the works, and that it could borrow some features from other models, such as simulated gear shifts. The hypothetical car would likely have much more horsepower, maybe via a second motor, as well as suspension upgrades to the EV4’s MacPherson strut front end and independent multi-link rear end. Also missing in action was any mention of the hatchback.

Features And Availability

Kia also revealed some of the standard and optional features of the EV4 line. They all get the same set of screens for instruments and infotainment as the EV9. These include a pair of 12.3-inch screens separated by a 5-inch climate-control touchscreen. Dual-zone climate control is also standard, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and adaptive cruise control. Options on offer include the ability to use your phone as a key, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, lane-following, and remote parking assist.

The EV4 is set to go on sale in the first quarter of next year. Kia will be building them in South Korea. It’s possible they could be subject to tariffs, but a lot could change between now and next year. We expect to hear more about pricing and other details closer to the on-sale date.
