New Lamborghini Urus PHEV Debuts This Week, Could Have 700+ HP

  • Lamborghini will introduce the Urus PHEV on April 24.
  • The crossover is expected to have a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8, a 25.9 kWh battery pack, and an electric motor.
  • The Urus could have an output of around 729 hp and 700 lb-ft of torque.

The countdown to Auto China continues as Lamborghini has dropped the first teasers of the Urus Plug-In Hybrid. While the company didn’t exactly come out and say it on social media, we can see the prototype features an electrification warning label.

var adpushup = window.adpushup = window.adpushup || {que:[]};
adpushup.que.push(function() {

}

} });

More tellingly, the Volkswagen Group confirmed a “Lamborghini PHEV model will make its world premiere at the Group Media Night” on April 24. It will be shown alongside five other world premieres including the Audi Q6 L e-tron and a Volkswagen concept.

Lamborghini isn’t saying much at this point, but suggested the crossover will offer “endless thrills.” That sounds like marketing hyperbole, but spy photographers have caught the model on multiple occasions.

_taboola.push({
mode: ‘thumbnails-a-mid’,
container: ‘taboola-mid-article’,
placement: ‘Mid Article’,

});

As a result, we know the plug-in hybrid powertrain will be accompanied by a light refreshening. The latter will see the model outfitted with a new front bumper and updated headlights. Similar updates should also occur out back.

The changes will extend to the cabin as the crossover will be equipped with a revised dashboard and what appears to be a larger infotainment system. They’ll be joined by new switchgear, revised trim, and an updated lower display.

The big news is the plug-in hybrid powertrain. It’s expected to echo the Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid, which has a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine, a 25.9 kWh battery pack, and an electric motor. This setup enables the model to produce a combined output of 729 hp (544 kW / 739 PS) and 700 lb-ft (948 Nm) of torque.

That’s far more than the current output of 657 hp (490 kW / 666 PS) and it enables the Porsche to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 3.5 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 183 mph (295 km/h).
