2005 Maserati MC12 Stradale Up For Auction With Broad Arrow

One of only 50 Maserati MC12 Stradales ever built will be going under the hammer with Broad Arrow Auctions next month in Monterey. Tellingly, this particular model is valued at between $4.8 million and $5 million. That’s the same as 15 brand-new GT2 Stradales, or if you’re looking for a brand-new hypercar, approximately one Aston Martin Valkyrie.

If realized, that vast lump of money could make this one of the most valuable MC12 Stradales ever sold at auction. Other examples of the limited-edition breed have sold for close to $4 million previously, with two separate MC12s receiving just north of $3.8 million with RM Sotheby’s in 2023 and 2024. Even Maserati’s uber-rare, track-only MC12 Versione Corse, of which only a dozen were ever built, has struggled to vault over the $5 million bar.

Ultra-Exclusive MC20 Duo Pay Tribute To An Iconic Maserati Supercar

The MC20 Icona and Leggenda pay homage to the incredible MC12 supercar.

7,000-Plus Miles On The Clock – Our Kind Of Car Collector

Produced in 2005 (the second and final year of production), this example – chassis 12095 – is finished in the supercar’s indicative Bianco Fuji pearlescent white livery with blue detailing. Indeed, this stock color scheme is an homage to Maserati’s legendary ‘Birdcage’ Tipo 60/61 that raced during the 1960s. The cabin is similarly decked out with Blu leather and stock BrighTex fabric upholstery.

Notably, this MC12 has a comparatively enormous 11,500 kilometers – just over 7,145 miles – on the clock. Moreover, a full recommission, overseen by Ferrari specialist GTO Engineering, was completed earlier this month to the tune of $70,000. That means this MC12’s current owner decided to green-light a full engine re-seal (including new spark plugs, accessory belts and coolant hoses), rebuilt oil and water pumps, a replacement clutch, a full steering rack realignment, improved heat shielding in the engine bay, and a full brake change rather than buy a brand-new Porsche 718 Cayman. Full details of the lot can be found here.

The Most Iconic Modern Maserati Isn’t Even Road-Legal In America

It is technically illegal to drive this Maserati in the USA. Except Bill Gates and Bill Clinton came up with a new bill that made it legal…

MC12 Stradale. A Road And Track Legacy

Debuting at the 2004 Geneva Auto Show, the MC12 Stradale not only marked Maserati’s factory return to motorsport after a 37-year absence, but also kick-started one of the most successful campaigns ever in the FIA GT Championship. Like Porsche’s 911 GT1 and Mercedes-Benz’ CLK GTR before it, the MC12 was a full homologation special, built around Ferrari’s already-superb Enzo. Albeit with quite a few modifications. In fact, only the windshield made the switch.

Designed by Frank Stephenson, the father of the GranSport, the Ferrari 430, and the Ford Escort RS Cosworth among other headliners, the MC12’s carbon fiber bodywork was 2.6 inches wider, 2.2 inches taller, and a massive 17.4 inches longer than the car with which it shared a chassis. These extended dimensions proved crucial to the vehicle’s high-downforce, low-drag characteristics, and essentially made it an unbeatable GT1 demon. Across 96 races, the MC12 won 40 of them as well as six FIA Teams’ Championships, and two Manufacturers’ crowns.

The road-going homologation, meanwhile, featured the Enzo’s 6.0-liter Tip M144A V12, again with heavy modifications. While the MC12’s 630-horsepower output was actually a 20 hp drop over the Enzo, the 3,130-pound Maserati was 100 lbs lighter than its Ferrari cousin. All-told, the MC12 Stradale could hit 60 MPH from standstill in 3.8 seconds en-route to a 205-mph top speed. Just 25 were built in 2004, followed by 25 more in 2005, far fewer than the 400 examples of the Enzo produced by Maranello.
