The Toyota Sequoia Gets The New TRD Signature Color For 2026

Toyota will give the 2026 Sequoia an ever-so-slight update, including the addition of the company’s single-year special color for TRD Pro models – in this case, Wave Maker. The new blue, which is limited to the flagship off-road trim, joins other trim and color alterations for the rest of the Sequoia lineup, which will solder into 2026 with the same twin-turbo V6/hybrid powertrain that makes a healthy 437 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, as well as up to 22 miles per gallon combined – better than any full-size SUV save those powered by GM’s stout Duramax inline-six.

There’s A Family Resemblance

The new color, called Wave Maker, was already announced in May, with a few images of the 2026 Sequoia peppered in with the other members of the TRD Pro family: the 4Runner, Tacoma, and Tundra. In the latest batch of images from Toyota, the Sequoia looks mighty fun in its new color, like it’s ready for a surf trip to Waimea or Pounder’s Beach or anywhere else with crystal blue water.

In addition to the new TRD Pro color, other trims of the Sequoia get a few updates. The Capstone trim, for example, will offer a new interior color scheme called Shale; the cabin will combine grayish leather upholstery with a dark dashboard and ruddy brown stitching and accents. We’ve asked Toyota if the new Shale interior will replace or supplement the white and black upholstery currently offered on the Capstone and will update this article once we have an answer.

Toyota’s biggest SUV went old-school V8 for years but is now a hip modern ride with hybrid power and fresh new looks.

Bringing Comfort And Convenience To The People

Perhaps of more interest to a broader swath of Sequoia consumers, the Limited model will now come standard with leather upholstery, which replaces the Softex synthetic hides in 2025 and previous models. The new leather comes in black with white stitching or gray with black stitching. And in another nod to the Sequoia’s wider audience base, every trim will now come with power-folding third-row seats. That convenience feature was formerly standard on the Limited, TRD Pro, 1794 Edition, Platinum, and Capstone – but missing from the base SR5.

That’s about it for the 2026 Sequoia’s changes, which don’t sound substantive enough to either limit or expand the SUV’s appeal. The latest generation, which debuted for the 2023 model year, makes use of a simpler live rear axle instead of its predecessor’s independent rear suspension. That change, combined with the hybrid system that places the large nickel–metal hydride battery under the third row, means quite a bit less cargo and passenger room back there compared to the cavernous Chevrolet Tahoe and Ford Expedition. At least its 9,520-pound maximum towing capacity is tops in its class.

How Toyota’s Only Full-Size SUV Compares To Key Rivals

How does the 2025 Toyota Sequoia stack up to some of its rivals?

The Sequoia also shines in its fun-loving approach to big-SUV living. Shorter and narrower than its American rivals, the full-size Toyota is more maneuverable off-road and features a lot more personality, especially in the TRD Pro trim. While we recommend against it for families that actually need third-row space for kids – much less adults – the 2026 Sequoia looks to maintain its rugged, 4Runner-plus personality with a few added features and color choices.
