Mercedes-Benz unveiled its 2026 CLA sedan with great fanfare earlier this year. It runs on the company’s new Mixed Modular Architecture (MMA) platform. Its styling looks more conventional (and less potato-like) than Mercedes’s other recent EVs. Achieving that look did not require a sacrifice in efficiency. The electric CLA sedan has a drag coefficient of just 0.21 and delivers 492 miles of range in WLTP testing, which could translate to more than 400 miles in EPA testing.

But like previous CLA generations, Mercedes-Benz is not stopping with a sedan. The German brand just debuted a new wagon version: the Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake with EQ Technology.

The new CLA Shooting Brake is a compact electric wagon. It comes in two versions, starting with the base-model CLA 250+. It’s rear-wheel drive, packs 268 horsepower and 247 pound-feet of torque, and delivers 473 miles of range in WLTP testing. The upgrade is the CLA 350 4MATIC. It features a dual-motor AWD setup, generating 349 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque. It yields a slightly reduced range of 453 miles. For those who prefer their wagons with combustion power, Mercedes-Benz will also offer a mild-hybrid version utilizing a 2.0-liter inline-four engine.
The CLA Shooting Brake features an 85-kilowatt-hour nickel-manganese-cobalt battery. The automaker says it can fast charge at up to 320 kW, with 800V charging infrastructure. It can add up to 193 miles of range in 10 minutes. And it’s capable of 22 kW AC charging, faster than the 11 kW home charging of most modern American EVs.
The CLA Shooting Brake Features A Starry Sky And SUV-Like Practicality
Mercedes-Benz included a panoramic roof with the new CLA. Its heat-insulated safety glass protects against solar radiation to keep the cabin cool during the summer, helps trap heat to improve heating efficiency in the winter, and the opacity is adjustable. At night, when there’s no sunlight to dial down, the trick glass illuminates with 158 stars embedded within. That’s pretty cool.
Buyers opting for a small wagon over a small electric SUV won’t sacrifice practicality. The Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake has up to 45.6 cubic feet in the rear cargo area and a 3.6 cubic-foot frunk under the hood. It comes with static roof rails, rated to hold up to 165 pounds of gear. It can also tow up to 3,968 pounds, more than a non-Raptor Ford Bronco.
Will Mercedes-Benz Sell The CLA Shooting Brake In America?
In a word, no. Mercedes-Benz has announced the European arrival of the electric CLA Shooting Brake in March 2026. The brand did not mention American availability, and sadly, there’s no mention of the new long-roof on the automaker’s US media site. To make sure, CarBuzz contacted Mercedes-Benz and a spokesperson confirmed: the CLA wagon won’t be offered in the States.
“The new CLA will be available exclusively in the sedan body style in the US.”
-Mercedes-Benz spokesperson
The company did not bring the last two CLA Shooting Brake variants to the States, either. However, electric SUVs are another matter. Mercedes-Benz has confirmed plans to build the new GLC in the United States starting in 2027.
