It’s been a good week for BMW Touring fans. A couple of days ago, engineer Max Reisböck explained how he built the first-ever E30 3 Series Touring in a friend’s garage with the well-worn remains of a second-hand 323i. And now, AC Schnitzer, the renowned German tuning synonymous with the BMW Group, has a new aerodynamic package for both the sedan and Touring models of the current generation M5.
- Base Trim Engine
-
4.4-Liter Twin-Turbo V8 Gas PHEV
- Base Trim Transmission
-
8-Speed Automatic
- Base Trim Horsepower
-
717 hp
So new is this aerodynamic package in fact that some components are still in the development phase, and thus aren’t available for customer orders just yet. Pricing and delivery plans will likewise be published at a later date.

Lightweight AC6 Alloys Make Global Debut On New Aero Package
While a big part of this new package is aggression – just take a look at the new side sills and rear skirt, donned with AC Schnitzer’s logo – the German tuner has taken great pains to improve the M5’s downforce as well. There’s a menacing new front splitter, with bisecting wings across the front air intakes, and a new rear wing, for example (you’ll also get a tail-lip spoiler on the sedan), which work in tandem with a three-piece rear diffuser and revised front fenders to optimize airflow. The M5’s ride height has also been lowered by approximately three-quarters of an inch, courtesy of a racier suspension kit in a move to refine steering response. Sound from the M5’s V8 – more on that in a moment – has been made yet rortier courtesy of new 4.3-inch Carbon Sport tailpipes, made from stainless steel.
AC has also ditched BMW’s standard alloys for new lightweight 21-inch forged wheels, which make their global debut on this M5 aerodynamic package. These five-spoke AC6 wheels are available in either gloss black or ceramic-coated aluminum, and donned with performance rubber. Should you be partial to BMW’s standard five dual-spoke examples though, AC will provide quarter-inch spacers to help fill out those newly flared wheel arches.

810-Horsepower Tune Of M5’s Hybrid V8 In The Works
Upgrades on the inside have been kept surprisingly tame, though the machined aluminum detailing, which can be seen on the pedals, the footrest, the cover of the iDrive controller on the center console, and even the keyholder (yes, keyholder), adds an aggressive yet still refined touch of class to the M5’s cabin.
Despite ironically being dubbed a “comprehensive technology package,” the plug-in hybrid 4.4-liter TwinTurbo V8, and the eight-speed automatic live on without any changes, for now anyway. Not that the car is hurting for power – its 717-horsepower combined output (577 of which is produced by the V8 alone) already shoves the gutsy (and heavy) M5 into triple-digit speeds with grand authority. But if you still want more, a performance upgrade from AC Schnitzer that could top 810-horsepower is already in the works.
