Jeep has added a pair of special edition trims to the Wagoneer lineup in an attempt to give the big three-row SUV a little more shine. One is a middle-grade model called the Limited, while the other wants to make the Wagoneer super. Sorry, that’s the Wagoneer Super, which conveniently debuts the same week as the new Superman movie. It’s probably just a coincidence.
The off-road brand calls the Jeep Wagoneer Super “elevated and upscale, without a luxury price tag.” It includes some bits you couldn’t get before, but with a price starting at $82,535, we’re not sure Jeep understands what a luxury price tag means exactly.
Jeep Brings Back A Name From The 1960s For Its Luxury Wagoneer
Jeep pulled the Super name from way back in 1966. That year, the automaker added the Super Wagoneer to the lineup as a luxury model with a more powerful AMC V8, a push-button radio, map lights, and power brakes. Yeah, luxury was a lot different in 1966 than it is today. It built the Super Wagoneer for three years, assembling around 4,000 copies in the process.
The Wagoneer Super starts life as a Series III Wagoneer and adds some goodies previously reserved for the Grand Wagoneer. Non-exclusive extras include 22-inch wheels, a two-tone roof, body-color flares, black power side steps, and a black-out trim package.

It comes with a load of options you want for almost half the usual price.
Exclusives borrowed from the Grand Wagoneer include a 19-speaker McIntosh audio system, a three-pane panoramic roof, and a “premium soft-touch wrapped finish” in the cabin. Before this package, the best audio system you could get in a regular Wagoneer was … a 19-speaker McIntosh audio system, and the most roof was a tri-pane panoramic sunroof. Yes, most of the features offered as part of the Super pack were already included in the Jeep’s Premium Group, which also came with some stuff the Super doesn’t get, like a cargo shade cover. Okay, only a cargo shade cover.
This Wagoneer Is Nearly BMW X7 Money
The Super’s $82,535 includes destination, and it’s $500 more than a Series III with the aforementioned Premium Group. By comparison, the cheapest new Cadillac Escalade starts around $90,000, and that’s with rear-wheel drive. A BMW X7 is $86,000, but it’s much smaller, has much less power, and, frankly, isn’t as nice inside. Not at that price point, anyway. In this company, the Wagoneer Super is the less-expensive choice. Whether that $82,000 sticker is or isn’t a “luxury price tag” remains to be seen.
As for the other new trim, the Wagoneer Limited offers a slightly cheaper take on the Super. It’s based on the Series II grade, and adds body-color flares, chrome badges, and 22-inch wheels. It also includes power side steps, power-folding second and third row seats, a tri-pane roof, and a surround-view camera. This new trim starts at $76,535.
Order books for both are now open.

These are the best SUVs if you want to give second-row passengers a deluxe experience.
What about Jeep’s flagship luxury SUV, the Grand Wagoneer? For comparison, it starts from $87,040 – $4,505 more than a Super. For the extra coin you get the 540-horsepower Hurricane I6 instead of the 420-hp version used in the Wagoneer. It also has nicer leather, nicer seats, and other extra stuff. But for nearly $100 less per month on a typical loan, the Super might make a little more sense. The Limited is over $10,000 less with similar visual bling, but in all cases, we’re still talking about SUVs costing well over $70,000.
CarBuzz reached out to Jeep for clarification on the Wagoneer Super’s additions, because the pricing for the extra equipment seems a bit odd to us. We’ll jump in with an update if new information becomes available, but if you’re hot to trot on getting one, order books for both trims are now open.
