The Only Blue-On-Blue Lexus LFA In America Was Barely Driven

The cliché of the proud Corvette owner telling everyone how his car is a one-of-one because of the options chosen is a running joke in car culture. However, the Lexus LFA is a genuinely rare car with only 190 arriving to be sold in the US. That means a one-of-one is a big deal, and this LFA sold recently by RM Sotheby’s has something we haven’t seen before – a Blue Alcantara interior with matching exterior paint.

While nine LFAs were finished in Pearl Blue for the US market, this is the only one that got here with a blue interior. What’s more, it isn’t as garish as it sounds under the blue paint, despite being matched by blue floor mats and blue leather steering wheel. However, we’re not sure about the choice of bronze-colored trim with the blue. Or the choice to drive it so little over such a long period.

A Head-Scratching Car

The Lexus LFA is still one of the most head-scratching supercars out there, despite only 500 models being built to sell between 2010 and 2012. The first head-scratching thing is that the usually safe-playing Japanese brand went ahead and built a sports car engineered to perfection with a V10 that makes the kind of noise that has Ferrari and Lamborghini owners turning their heads and wanting to hear more.

The second is that, despite the hype and love it got from anyone who drove a Lexus LFA, they sold incredibly slowly. In 2023, the owner of an Australian dealership had to buy one from his own lot as the time to register it for the road was running out, and it’s not the only one reported as still for sale in recent years.

A Curiosity Car

That makes this car a curiosity, as RM Sotheby’s reports that it has “resided within single-family ownership from new” and “is currently showing just under 3,000 miles on its odometer.” That means it has been driven rather than tucked away as an investment piece, but not enough to have an impact on its value, or reach its first service interval of 5,000 miles.

We suspect someone wanted to enjoy this one a bit, then tucked it away to sell later. We don’t know what this one sold for, but they’re currently selling for around $900,000 with low mileage. That’s not a bad return on the $375,000 retail price when they came out. However, for a car that was produced in such a limited number, there’s a surprising amount for sale. However, the days of LFAs selling slowly are likely coming to an end soon.

How The Lexus LFA Went From Failure To Must-Have Supercar

The Lexus LFA is a motoring icon. But it didn’t start out that way. Initially, potential customers gave it a miss, preferring established brands.

Now Is Probably The Time To Buy An LFA

Now that all the LFAs are, in theory at least, sold to their first owners, they’re legitimately rare and could make for an excellent investment piece. On top of that, what looks like the Lexus LFA’s successor is showing up in spy shots, which helps push the LFA back in historical context. Even to just drive and enjoy it as it’s meant to be enjoyed, now is probably the least expensive they’ll be. You just need around a million bucks to get behind the wheel.
