Buick Treats China To A More Attractive And Luxurious Minivan

  • Buick has introduced the facelifted GL8 Land Business Class in China.
  • It sports a modern design and an updated interior with a new dashboard.
  • The minivan has VIP seats with a damper designed to prevent motion sickness.

Buick offers a dizzying array of minivans in China and the company has introduced an updated GL8 Land Business Class, which sits at the bottom of the lineup and starts at ¥229,900 ($32,073). Despite the affordable price tag, the model features a host of upgrades that are designed to make the van more comfortable and luxurious.

Starting outside, the model adopts the company’s new Pure design language. As a result, the GL8 features an all-new front fascia with slender LED headlights and a wide grille. The model also sports a power sliding door, rear privacy glass, a sunroof, and 17-inch aluminum wheels.

The updates continue inside as drivers will find a new dashboard with dual 12.3-inch displays. They’re joined by a new steering wheel and a revamped center stack. The shifter also moves to the steering column for a cleaner, more modern appearance.

Elsewhere, there are second-row luxury VIP seats. They feature flip-up armrests, a reclining backrest, and an “anti-sickness damper” that helps to prevent motion sickness.

Other updates include an improved voice recognition system, a remote climate control function, and larger side-curtain airbags that now cover the entire window area. Customers will also find a quieter cabin thanks to new double-layer acoustic glass and better sound damping materials.

Buick didn’t provide a detailed equipment list, but the GL8 Land Business Class comes with power front seats, rear climate controls, and an eight-speaker audio system. The model also has a cargo capacity ranging from 18.4 cubic feet (521 liters) to 58.3 cubic feet (1,650 liters).

Some of the most important updates are hidden beneath the skin as the GL8 has an all-new rear suspension. The old school torsion beam setup has been replaced by a modern four-link independent rear suspension, which promises to offer a “significant evolution in driving comfort.”

Power comes from a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 233 hp (174 kW / 237 PS) and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque. It’s connected to a nine-speed automatic transmission, which enables the minivan to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in a leisurely 9.2 seconds.
