This G-Class Mixes Viking Gods With A Millionaire’s Taste For Firepower

Show-stopping G-Viking is how Carlex Design is putting Mansory to shame

If you want a modified Mercedes-Benz G-Class that looks extraordinary, without being over-the-top like those from Mansory, Carlex Design should be the tuner specialist you call. Over the years, it’s established itself as a purveyor of all things G-Wagen, releasing several limited-edition models with bold exterior redesigns, upgraded interiors, and powertrain modifications. Now, it has just unveiled its latest G.

Known as the Carlex G-Viking, this car is a one-off designed in collaboration with VO Vapen. You’ve probably never heard of VO Vapen before, but it’s a Swedish gunsmith that just so happens to build the world’s most expensive sporting rifle, the $820,000 VO Falcon. For this special G-Class, the company has handcrafted four bespoke rifles that resemble art pieces more than hunting rifles.

The exterior of the G-Viking has been previewed with Carlex’s familiar G-Class bodykit that includes revised front and rear fascias, as well as more pronounced flared wheel arches. The exterior is then painted in a fancy-looking two-tone brown and silver finish infused with diamond dust. Yes. You read that correctly.

But, like so many other Carlex projects, it’s in the cabin where the G-Viking stands out. It has been showcased in all-new full-grain bovine leather that’s been hand-patinated and dyed. It then includes sealskin inserts and pieces of custom engraving, including on the dashboard. Some may not like the dark brown leather, but it’s hard to deny that it looks very classy.

The pièce de résistance is the roof. Like we’ve seen on other Gs from Carlex, the roof of this one has been hand-engraved over hundreds of hours with an intricate pattern, making this G even more wild.

Then there’s the small matter of the four rifles. They are housed in a special leather-wrapped gun holder in the trunk, and each has been inspired by mythological Norse figures Odin, Thor, and Loki, as well as the Swedish legend of Midvinterblot. Each rifle has 24K gold accents and a dual-barrel configuration.
