Volvo EX60 Teaser Reveals Sharp Lines On The SUVs Backside

The latest teaser for the next electric SUV from Volvo suggests the campaign to launch it will be nearly endless. This new image of the Volvo EX60 might even show less of it than the last one, which is a strange bit of marketing.

But the 2027 Volvo EX60 image the brand posted to Instagram yesterday does confirm one thing: The sibling to the EX90 SUV will arrive in early 2026. With that, expect it on sale by the summer.

Volvo Is Starting A Summer Of Teasing For Its Newest Model

Volvo

Our first look at the upcoming Volvo EX60 crossover, the electric version of the XC60, occurred in March. Volvo made a video for the reveal of the ES90 electric sedan, and about 25 minutes into that video, Volvo let the new SUV slip. It was an intentional appearance meant to look like an accident; we could see what looked to be the clay model of the EX60. Or at least an early prototype.

The XC70 has been resurrected back from the dead but in a different form.

The video showed the rear of the EX60, giving a glimpse of part of the tailgate, the rear bumper, and one taillight. It also showed that Volvo isn’t taking any risks with the design of its next SUV, and we can understand why. This is the electric version of its most popular model. The company doesn’t want to rock the boat too much.

Volvo is set to launch the EX60 crossover on its SPA3 architecture. The model will be the first on that platform, which is an evolution of the bones of the EX90. Volvo has said that the new platform is more scalable than before. It will use the battery as part of the structure for higher energy density and increased range, and it is also set to use megacasting technology to let Volvo reduce the rear floor from 100 parts to just one, with fewer welds, lower costs, and a lighter vehicle.

New Model, Familiar Shape

When Volvo launched the larger EX90 electric crossover, its design was not far removed from the gas XC90. The shape didn’t stray from other Volvos of recent memory either, with Thor’s hammer headlights and a C-shaped taillight that led up into the very familiar C-pillar.

This look at the EX60 shows a taillight that drops the C-shape, but still continues into the pillar. It’s a take on the same basic design idea that Volvo launched with the 850 wagon way back in 1991. Though the design has evolved since then, adding a more pronounced shoulder with the 2001 V70 and becoming sharper and narrower over the years. This latest might be the thinnest yet, taking advantage of modern lighting tech. It also features a tiny Volvo logo, which is almost too small to read in the image.

Volvo is planning 10 launches in the next two years, including five new vehicles this year. Some will be expansions of existing lines, and others will be replacements or updates.

The Volvo XC70 Is Coming Back, But Not As A Wagon

The new XC70 is the first of its kind in Volvo’s global lineup.

This one could also be built in the US. Company CEO Jim Rowan said in March that the automaker was considering moving some production to its South Carolina plant to help increase efficiency and reduce its tariff exposure. While EV adoption in the US isn’t as high as brands had hoped, the XC60 is the brand’s best seller in the US. It could be the ideal place to make at least some copies of the new EX60.
