Two American Icons Race, Only One Makes The Turn

  • Police arrested the Mustang driver after they slammed into a Nissan and a Chevy.
  • Authorities later tracked down the C8 Corvette and impounded it for 30 days.

Security camera footage from Vacaville, California, has captured the moment that a C8 Chevrolet Corvette and an S550 Ford Mustang sped around a right-hand corner before one of them slammed into a Nissan waiting at the intersection. Any guesses as to whether it was the Corvette or the Mustang that crashed? No? Thought so…

});

The crash occurred in late May, but it only just came across our radar. According to local authorities, the driver of the black Mustang and the silver Corvette had accelerated down the Cliffside Drive off-ramp from I-80, approaching an intersection at high speed.

Footage shows that as soon as the driver of the Mustang began to turn, the pony car began to understeer and plowed directly into the side of a Nissan at the traffic lights. To make matters even worse for the driver of the pony car, it then smashed into the side of a Chevy sedan before grinding to a halt in the middle of the road. By comparison, the Corvette made the turn easily, although the driver did run wide into a turning lane on the other side of the road.

Authorities arrested the 22-year-old driver of the Mustang while attending to the crash. Meanwhile, the driver of the Corvette continued on their merry way, leaving the scene. Police managed to track down the driver of the ‘Vette the following week, impounding the car for 30 days.

Obviously, the driver of the ‘Stang entered the corner with far too much speed, and the tires had no hope of providing enough traction. It also seems that a large bump just before the driver started to turn likely upset the balance of the car.
