Land Rover Defender 110 Trophy Edition To Showcase New Global Competition

In a week when unexpected off-roaders are all the rage, and following swiftly in the tire marks of a Jeep Wagoneer cop car and a brand-new Lada, of all things, Land Rover has not only released a special edition off-road package for its mid-sized Defender, but has also launched the new Defender Trophy, a global “adventure competition” that’s due to take place next year.

Inspired by the Camel Trophy, an off-road endurance rally supported heavily by Land Rover between 1980 and 2000, the new Defender 110 Trophy Edition is available from £89,810 (around $120,650 USD), and will make its global debut at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed in July. For owners of an existing Defender 110, meanwhile, the Trophy Edition Accessory Pack can be retrofitted from £4,995 (around $6,700 USD), minus installation fees.

Land Rover Gives The Old Defender A New (And Expensive) Lease On Life

Land Rover’s Icon just got a new lease of life, 41 years after it was first introduced.

Heritage Paint And Snorkel, But No Engine Upgrades

Developed exclusively for the Defender, the Trophy Edition pays tribute to the bespoke Defender 110 used on the Camel Trophy during the 1980s and 1990s. As such, the Trophy Edition pairs new 20-inch alloys and a black leather interior with a choice of two heritage colors, ‘Sandglow Yellow’ and/or ‘Keswick Green’ (the dashboard is also painted in matching color). The new dual-tone look is completed with black contrast hood, wheel arches, and roof.

The optional Trophy Edition accessory pack adds an ‘Expedition’ roof rack, a roof ladder, and ‘Gear Carrier’ mounted on the C-pillars (both also finished in contrast gloss black), an air intake snorkel, and Land Rover Classic mud flaps. A matte-finish film can also be optioned to protect the heritage paint from damage. A primarily cosmetic upgrade, it’s unlikely that the Defender’s 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and/or 3.0-liter hybridized inline-six has received an upgrade.

Why The New (Old) Defender Is Cooler Than The New Defender

Land Rover’s Classic Works team has unveiled their latest bespoke rendition of the Defender. Here’s why it’s cooler than the new vanilla Defender.

This, incidentally, is not the first time the British brand has harkened back to its “rich history of adventure challenges,” as Land Rover Classic released the limited-edition ‘Trophy’ Defender back in 2021. The initial run of just 25 models was earmarked so quickly that Land Rover commissioned a second run the following year.

Defender Trophy Global Finals Scheduled For 2026

In a neat additional touch, Land Rover has confirmed the launch of the new Defender Trophy, an endurance rally in the spirit of the now-discontinued Camel Trophy. Though few details about the competition have been provided, entries are now open to competitors across more than 50 countries, and local selection will begin this summer ahead of national finals scheduled for Spring. The victors of these finals will then take part in a Global Final, set to be held in Africa next October (the precise route and location will be revealed in August 2026).

So far, all we know is that the finalists will compete in “a series of stages” and take on challenges built around three pillars, for which they earn points: ‘Driving’ (obviously), ‘Ingenuity,’ and ‘Physical,’ the latter of which Land Rover specifies “daunting feats” traversing canyons and crossing rivers with their Defenders in tow.

As the Defender Trophy was also introduced to inspire “real and global change for conservation causes,” it’s likely that competitors will work closely with event partner Tusk, the charitable organization funding wildlife conservation in Africa.
