Some of you may remember Desert Power Wagons, the North Carolina-based engineering firm that brought us the 385-horsepower Power Wagon restomod back in February. If you enjoy pickup trucks that can completely emasculate a burly Ram 1500 4×4, you’ll be pleased to hear that the company has a new mega-truck in its stable. This “masterfully reimagined icon,” looks like a Dodge Power Wagon from 1946. But under the hood you’ll find a turbo diesel making 500 horsepower and 1,000 pound-feet of torque.

You’ll have to pay for it, though. The price tag for this build checks in at $315,950. Incidentally, that’s enough for a 2025 Porsche 911 Turbo S with enough change left for a 718 Cayman S. But if you’re into classic trucks, this particular model has just 750 run-in miles on the clock.

When this beast was unveiled, the world had never seen something so tough specifically made for the civilian mass-market.
Retro Look, Contemporary Base
Like DPW’s previous model, this 1946 Power Wagon is built from, and pays tribute to, Dodge’s original utilitarian truck. Built specifically for use by the United States Army starting in 1942, a civilian version followed after World War II. You might think of it as an early forerunner to the Mercedes G-Wagen and the Hummer, notably larger than the old Jeep and supremely capable off-road. This particular truck took 2,000 hours to build, primarily because it was almost entirely rebuilt from the ground up.
To ensure it meets today’s road safety regulations, many of the underpinnings have been removed. This restomod instead rides on a custom-built ladder frame chassis, to which Dana axles and Fox Racing suspension have been mounted, the latter of which offers 9.5 inches of travel. On top of this, the bodywork is finished in a fittingly service-like Timberline Green Metallic, though the steel slats in the bed have been kept black in a nod to the original truck. Also, the contrast with the green just looks superb here.
The whole package rides on 18-inch Black Rhino Arsenal wheels, clad with meaty 37-inch Maxxis Razr M/T off-road tires. Combined with an NP271 manual transfer case and the obligatory heavy-duty winch from Warn, it should be no surprise that this 1946 Power Wagon was designed “to conquer any terrain with unwavering confidence.” Whether anyone actually takes this $315,950 work of art into the wilderness, however, remains to be seen.

Most of the classic curves and design details were kept, but it can now function as a comfortable daily driver.
“Over 500 Horsepower” From A Turbo-Diesel
To help this DPW pulverize said terrain to a quivering pool of custard, the 5.9-liter Cummins turbo-diesel inline-six – the likes of which you’d find in a first-generation Ram, and no, not the one that grenaded itself – sends a monstrous 1,000 pound feet of torque to all four wheels via a surprisingly refined four-speed automatic transmission. Said Cummins unit also produces “over 500 horsepower,” 115 ponies more than the larger-capacity 6.7-liter turbo diesel in its $425,000 counterpart.
Like the aforementioned sibling, this 1946 restomod also replaces the unapologetically functional interior of the 1940s models with something altogether more polished. The vintage-inspired look comes courtesy of “Distressed Pinecone” leather upholstery and matching diamond-stitched seats, fluted leather door pockets, and a wood-grain steering wheel from Forever Sharp. Contemporary touches are hidden beneath the surface and in plain sight (yes, those daunting headlights are LEDs), so for that $315K asking price, customers will get modern tech like a Rockford Fosgate audio system, Vintage Air climate control, Bluetooth, and power windows.
