Lanzante’s Supercar Is Like A McLaren But Better

Lanzante celebrates the 1995 Le Mans-winning F1 GTR and is targeting a power-to-weight ratio of 700 hp per ton

In just three weeks, the Goodwood Festival of Speed will take place and British purveyor of all things exotic, Lanzante, will unveil a very special supercar known as the 95-59. The car, built as a tribute to the #59 McLaren F1 GTR that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1995, will be Lanzante’s first in-house supercar and has been teased as its unveiling nears.

First previewed back in March, the 95-59 (pronounced nine-ty five, fif-ty nine), will be built around an existing McLaren platform. Like the iconic F1, as well as the modern Speedtail, Lanzante’s creation will be a three-seater with a central driver’s seat. The man behind the design is Paul Howse, who previously worked at McLaren and was pivotal in the creation of the P1, P1 GTR, and 720S.

This new teaser of the car previews the rear end, where the McLaren influences are obvious. It has sleek, LED taillights that wrap around the bodywork, similar to the P1 hypercar. The 95-59 also appears to have a floating rear wing, incorporated seamlessly into the rear bodywork, which sits above a centrally exiting tailpipe. The teaser also previews a dramatic diffuser and an exterior dominated by exposed carbon fiber.

Additionally, the original file name of the teaser reveals the painted surfaces of the car will be sprayed in Ueno Grey, the same color as the Le Mans-winning F1 GTR.

The previous teaser offered us a look at the front, side, and top of the car. It revealed a sexy, mid-engined shape with a flowing glass roof.

Lanzante has not said what engine will power its hypercar, but we know it is targeting a power-to-weight ratio of 700 hp per ton. Importantly, it won’t be a hardcore model focused purely on outright track performance, and according to the firm, will be able to carry luggage and have an “extended cruising range.”

Production of the 95-59 will be limited to just 59 units worldwide. There’s no word on how much it’ll cost, but expect it to be much pricier than McLaren’s current supercars, with the W1 hypercar being a possible exception.
