Jailbreak Alert: Thieves Crash Into Dealership And Outrun Police In Stolen Hellcat

  • Authorities discontinued the pursuit eastbound heading into Kansas City, Missouri.
  • Low-mileage Challenger Hellcat Jailbreak models like this are selling between $60k and $70k.
  • Rather than trying to sell stolen cars, thieves often export cars or sell them for parts.

It’s not every day you hear about a Dodge Hellcat being stolen right off the dealership lot, but that’s exactly what happened in Ottawa, Kansas. Thieves managed to snatch a 2023 Challenger SRT Hellcat Jailbreak earlier this week and make a clean getaway. Police were quick to respond, but the criminals managed to shake off the chase, and now local authorities are turning to the public for help.

The Hellcat theft occurred late on Sunday, June 15, at Victory Ottawa on 506 E 23rd St. According to the Ottawa Police Department, the thieves used another car to crash into the dealership and proceeded to flee in a blue Hellcat sitting on the lot. There’s no word on how they managed to get the key to the car, but it wasn’t long before an officer with the Wellsville, KS Police Department spotted the car and gave chase.

Despite officers from multiple agencies being on their tail, the driver continued to flee, and not even a tire deflation device used by the police was able to stop them, as reported by Road&Track. The Wellsville Police decided to discontinue the pursuit eastbound along I-435 heading into Kansas City, Missouri.

The Dodge that was snatched from the dealership had just 2,656 miles (4,274 km) on the clock, painted blue, and still sporting the original yellow splitter guards.

Low-mileage Jailbreak models like this are currently trading hands for between $60,000 and $70,000, but it’s highly unlikely the thieves will try to sell it. Chances are they will, or perhaps already have, started to disassemble it and will sell it for parts.

Writing on Facebook, the Ottawa Police Department stated that it is seeking anyone with information about the stolen Challenger to contact the Ottawa Police Department’s Detective Unit at 785-242-1700 or to use the online tip form.
