Chinese automaker Xiaomi just did the unthinkable, nabbing the record for fastest electric vehicle around the Nürburgring Nordschleife. A Xiaomi SU7 Ultra with the track package just completed a 7:04.957 lap time, besting the 7:05.298 time set by the previous EV record holder, the Rimac Nevera Time Attack. For clarity, we are comparing both cars on the Nürburgring’s long configuration, which stretches 12.9 miles. To put this victory into perspective, the Xiaomi SUV Ultra is a four-door sedan that costs around $75,000, while the Nevera is a two-seat supercar that costs $3 million.

Not only did the SU7 Ultra claim the record for the quickest EV around the Green Hell, it also gained the title of fastest four-door sedan of any powertrain. This record was previously held by the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, a luxury car costing more than three times the price of the Xiaomi ($231,995). In case you are curious, the fastest production EV is still no match for the quickest production car of all time, the Mercedes-AMG One, which lapped the Nordschleife in 6:29.090.
Xiaomi Brought The Power In Production Form
It may be most well-known for making cell phones, but Xiaomi is quickly emerging as the world’s premier EV company. The SU7 Ultra packs the same tri-motor setup as the SU7 Ultra Prototype, producing 1,548 horsepower, which set a blistering lap time of 6:46.874 back in 2024. Though this time didn’t count because it wasn’t the production-ready version, it was bested by only five production cars: the aforementioned AMG One, Porsche 911 GT2 RS Manthey, Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, and Lamborghini Aventador SVJ.

These road-legal machines are criminally quick.
Xiaomi says the SU7 Ultra can hit 62 mph in 1.98 seconds (one-foot rollout subtracted), and the car will go on to hit a top speed of 217 mph, making it 12 mph faster than the previous fastest sedan, the Maserati Ghibli 334 Ultima. In fact, on-board footage of the record-breaking lap shows the SU7 clocking 215 mph.
A New Nürburgring Staple
This record will not be a flash in the pan for Xiaomi, as the brand recently announced a partnership with the Nürburgring. The Chinese automaker is now a member of the track’s Industry Pool development drives, meaning we will see future prototypes and production models lapping the Green Hell in the future. The Grand Prix circuit has even received a new name for one of its corners, now dubbed “Xiaomi Curve.”
Despite Xiaomi’s massive success, it has zero presence in the United States market. This is mainly because Chinese automakers would currently be hit with a 100% tariff if they imported cars to the US. Even if Xiaomi had to charge $150,000 for the SU7 Ultra, it would still cost about $80,000 less than the Taycan Turbo GT. If it came to the US, would you consider buying one?
