The Toyota Century SUV isn’t the Japanese answer to the Rolls-Royce Cullinan. It’s something completely different, aimed at a world where Rolls isn’t even a consideration. Where true luxury is less showy and built at home. But what if you took that concept and turned it on its head? Transforming the Japanese luxury SUV into something much more suited to one of the biggest markets for luxury cars in the world.
No, Toyota isn’t going to build a Century pickup. But here’s what it would look like if the company did.
A “What If?” Of Functional Luxury
Digital creator Theophilus Chin, aka Theottle, builds models that aren’t available at all, or that just aren’t yet. What the new Jaguar will look like, what a new electric Bentley might be, and, of course, what pickup truck versions of the Land Cruiser and RAV4 might look like.
To get the proportions right, Theottle starts with a Toyota Tundra as a base. He then stretches the body of the Century to fit the big truck platform, making adjustments as necessary to make everything work.
And it does work. The lines of the Century lend themselves surprisingly well to pickup truck form. The truck bed is longer than might make sense for production, making this pickup extremely long, but it still looks good.

Tow, haul, and off-road in serious style.
The only part that might not quite work for a real truck is the tailgate. Putting the taillights on the tailgate is going to be a big no. Both for buyers and for regulators.
Could Toyota Really Build This?
One other part of the problem is that the Century SUV is not body-on-frame. Despite its luxury target, the Century SUV is built on a normal Toyota platform. It’s largely the same as a Camry or a RAV4 underneath. That long body might not be amenable to pickup truck duty.
But that’s not going to stop us from dreaming. About a truck with lay-flat rear seats and a custom shoe horn (with holder!), with heated leg-rests and those lovely fabric seat covers. Though not with wool seats, since Toyota seems to have dropped that wonderful option from the SUV.
Even better, as always, you can watch the process come together. We know not every digital artist does their creations the same way, but if you’re looking for a starting place, it might be tough to beat these videos. They show in surprising detail what goes into turning one vehicle into another.

Why would a Rolls-Royce-level luxury vehicle need a performance variant?
It makes us a little surprised that Toyota doesn’t already offer a luxury pickup. The Tundra Capstone is nice, but it’s no Century. And while it uses a frame similar to the one under the J300 Land Cruiser, it’s nowhere close to that model in luxury and capability either. So hey, Toyota, what’s the deal? Where’s your real luxury pickup? What do you mean you don’t think buyers would pay more than $180,000 (about the price of the Century SUV) for a pickup truck?
