The World’s Wildest Porsche Specialist Is Now Tuning New 911s

Famed Porsche builder Gunther Werks is getting into the aftermarket tuning industry with a new sub-brand called GW9. The division just released its first products, which instead of classic 911 sports cars will focus on the thoroughly modern 991 generation sold from 2020 to 2024. The GW9 carbon fiber aero kit offered for the 911 Turbo gives the flagship Porsche grand tourer some impressive visual aggression, but while the price may be a bit more attainable than a full Gunther Werks classic build, the spoilers and trim bits still cost close to $50,000 all-in.

There’s A Whole Lot To Like About The Aero Kit

Despite the price, there’s still a lot to love about the GW9 carbon fiber aero kit. Your author loves the winglets on the leading and trailing edges of each piece, which give the 911 Turbo some Le Mans–spec panache. The front bumper comes in two styles, either one with upward-facing winglets or one with side fins that extend down from the spoiler as a sort of wheel spat, and both look rather exciting. Otherwise, what you see is what you get, and each part can be ordered on its own or as a part of an eight-piece set.

GW9 also offers the choice of gloss or matte-finished carbon fiber, although selecting the latter will make an already pricey kit a little bit more expensive. For example, getting the satin sheen on the front splitter with winglets demands an additional $1,200, bringing the price from $11,995 to $13,195. The rear spoiler is identically priced for both gloss and matte finishes, meaning those two parts alone could net you an entire 996-generation Porsche 911 if you wanted to go that route instead. But then you wouldn’t have any carbon fiber, and that’s just sad, isn’t it?

Perhaps more exciting than the carbon fiber aero bits are the forged magnesium monoblock wheels. Offered in a staggered 20×9-inch front and 21×12-inch rear fitment, the center-lock wheels look a bit like those offered on the previous-generation Porsche 911 GT3, albeit with more spokes and some pretty cool etched details on the wheel rim. GW9 claims a weight advantage over the 911 Turbo S’ forged aluminum wheels, although it’s not clear exactly how much mass the mags shave. Still, less unsprung weight is a big win.

Add the $16,580 set of wheels to a matte-finished carbon package and you’re left with a whopping $70,450 in add-ons. GW9 doesn’t currently offer a one-box package for the 911 Turbo, so each part must be ordered individually. While 70 grand is a lot of cash for a few bolt-on additions, the price still pales in comparison to some of the less tasteful tuning offerings out there. We wouldn’t call it a “good deal,” per se, but those who demand the best should be satisfied.

For something as rare and special as this, the price looks about right.

In addition to the 992.1 911 Turbo S, GW9 also offers parts for the 991.1 GT3 RS, 991.2 Turbo GT2 RS, and the Taycan. That variety is unheard of for a Gunther Werks company, which typically only focuses on air-cooled 911s and little else. Still, GW9 claims its aero additions add downforce and improve airflow while boasting the fine attention to detail we’d expect from Gunther Werks.
