The Ugliest Modern Mercedes Is A Much Cheaper Luxury Minivan Than You Think

Before the modern glut of attractive, fuel-sipping three-row SUVs available to us today, many families turned to the often inoffensive yet practical minivan bodystyle, which is seeing a resurgence in popularity of late. But what if you had the need for a minivan, but still thought you should do better than the available crop of Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Dodge, Ford, Chrysler, and VW sliding-door vans? Well, in the mid-2000s, Mercedes-Benz came in with the intentionally luxurious R-Class MPV that offered the practicality of a van from a badge you could brag about. But the quirks don’t stop with the controversial styling, and that means the van is now very affordable on the used market.

A Recent Auction Shows Just How Much Prices Have Falledn

This 2007 example of an R320 in New York is up for grabs today on Bring A Trailer. It sports a 3.0-liter diesel V6 engine that’s good for 221 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque through a seven-speed automatic gearbox and the Mercedes 4Matic all-wheel drive system. It originally returned an estimated 21 mpg city and 28 mpg highway. This one has just over 51,000 miles on the clock and appears to be spotless based on the images.

The Most Underrated Mercedes-AMG Ever Made Is…

The world didn’t need a go-faster minivan in 2007, but we want one right now.

The spec is a Pewter Gray exterior finished with a gray and black leather interior with three rows of seating for six (with side airbags going all the way back), and six cupholders. This model also sports heated seating up front as a ticked option and features 17-inch 7-spoke wheels, a rear air spring suspension, rear privacy glass, and chrome trim on the grille, door handles, windows, and tailgate. There’s also navigation, cruise control, and three-zone automatic climate control.

Just Sold For Less Than The Cheapest Car In America

The original owner also selected the pricey Premium 2 Package option, which adds a Harman Kardon surround sound system, a rearview camera setup, a powered memory seat for the passenger, a panoramic sunroof, rear audio controls, powered rear quarter windows, and a powered tailgate.

The Mercedes-Benz R-Class Is The Car That We Forgot We Needed

Rendering artist Aksyonov Nikita has reminded us that we miss the R-Class.

The air conditioning compressor has recently been replaced (as has the oil), the right quarter panel is noted as scratched, and the current owner has seemingly only clocked 200 miles out of the larger total, which could be suspicious. On the other hand, the U.S.-market R-Class was assembled in the U.S., so you have that to brag about at the baseball game with the other families, along with your fancy badge. The auction ended yesterday after bidding at no reserve and sold for $15,600, which seems to be a little lower than other current used R-Class listings online. It’s also considerably less than the cheapest new car in America, the Nissan Versa.
