First minor wreck causes the hood to pop, but driver’s obstructed vision isn’t even the cause of his final crash

- A Dodge Challenger led cops on a chase with the coupe’s hood blocking the driver’s view.
- The hood popped up after the driver skidded into a wall while trying to make a turn in Texas.
- Cops found four illegal immigrants in the Dodge, charged the driver with people smuggling.
Having your car’s hood flip up on you while driving must be a terrifying experience. Suddenly your view of the road ahead is almost completely blocked and you’ve somehow got to try bring the car safely to a stop as soon as possible. But there’s no time for that when you’re in the middle of a police chase, as this Dodge Challenger driver in Texas discovered.
The footage from the pursuing cop car opens with the Challenger leaving the freeway and accelerating hard to put some space between himself and the police cruiser. The Dodge flies through a few intersections and is doing a good job of pulling away until he decides to take a left turn and makes a real mess of it.

Too much speed and too little grip results in the Challenger understeering into a wall and though the driver manages to reverse out onto the road and keep driving, his poor driving very soon encounters a big handicap as the black and white hood pops fully up, almost completely blocking his view of the street ahead of him.
We imagine the driver is hunkered right down in his seat at this point, trying to get a glimpse of the road through the narrow opening between the hood and dashboard. He must be able to see something because he manages to continue the chase, making multiple turns in a residential area.
Ultimately, it’s not his inability to see what’s in front of him that’s the Challenger driver’s undoing, but what he fails to see through the unobstructed passenger side window. Like the Honda CR-V that appears to have right of way and plows straight into the side of the Ddoge, spinning both out.
The Challenger’s driver, 31-year-old Humberto M.S., makes a break for it but is soon caught, tasered and taken into custody. Cops, who had initially tried to stop the Challenger because it was allegedly tied to a people-smuggling operation, found four (presumably terrified) illegal immigrants inside the Dodge.
