Cybertruck Owner Wanted To Show How Awesome FSD Is, It Crashed Instead

The slow speed crash was caught on camera and shows, yet again, technology isn’t flawless

Cybertruck Owner Wanted To Show How Awesome FSD Is, It Crashed Instead

  • A Tesla Cybertruck crashed into a parked car while allegedly in full-self driving mode.
  • The damage to the truck appeared to be largely cosmetic, but the owner isn’t happy.
  • This serves as yet another reminder that full-self driving doesn’t mean fully autonomous.

Being a Tesla owner isn’t easy these days as many have been subjected to insults, offensive gestures, or even vandalism. That’s on top of the usual recalls and questionable semi-autonomous driving technology.

The latter is back in the spotlight today as a Cybertruck owner posted a lengthy thread on X saying their truck crashed into a coworker’s car, while he was “showing a friend how awesome FSD is.” As you can see in the clip, the Cybertruck pulls into a parking lot but doesn’t make a tight enough turn to pull into the open parking space.

Instead, it collides with a parked sedan and then scrapes alongside it as it pulls into the space. This, understandably, caused some damage to the Cybertruck’s bumper, front fascia, and front fender flare. However, most of this appears to have been cosmetic and was quickly cleaned up.

Following the crash, JayPresto tried replicating the incident and the Cybertruck does seem to pull into the parking space at an odd angle. That’s less than ideal, but it’s important to remember full-self driving (FSD) doesn’t mean fully autonomous. Tesla has even revamped the name to “Full Self-Driving (Supervised)” and warns consumers about using the technology.

In particular, the company says FSD is “intended for use with a fully attentive driver, who has their hands on the wheel and is prepared to take over at any moment.” It adds the “currently enabled features do not make the vehicle autonomous.”

Given this, a number of commenters criticized the driver for not taking action to prevent the accident. However, JayPresto said “I was showing FSD to a friend, going around the block, he was behind the wheel… my fault… I know.”  If that’s the case, the driver might not have been aware of needing to take control if something goes wrong.

Despite the incident, JayPresto said “I love Tesla and my Cybertruck. Just sharing a super disappointing problem that happened. There are bugs that NEED to be addressed.”
