The Dubai Police Add A Lotus Emeya EV To The Fleet

If you plan on going hard the next time you visit Dubai, United Arab Emirates, just remember that there’s a very fast Lotus police car ready to haul you in if you cross a line. The city’s Tourist Police Department just took delivery of a new Emeya S electric sedan last week, which will be used around Dubai’s popular attractions like Jumeirah Beach Residence and the Burj Khalifa. The flashy sedan will not only patrol for criminal activity, it will also provide citizens and tourists with an easily recognizable place to look for assistance and guidance.

Lotus Collaborated On The EV Purchase

The law enforcement department commemorated its latest acquisition during the World Police Summit at the Dubai World Trade Centre, with top officials in attendance that included His Excellency Expert Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, the assistant commander-in-chief for criminal investigation affairs at Dubai Police. Also on hand during the celerbration was Ramzi Atat, Lotus head of marketing and public relations for Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa. Atat said that the company’s cooperation with the city of Dubai underscored the police department’s commitment to sustainability and innovation, especially since the car will likely serve in a relatively prominent role within the force.

The Lotus Emeya S has dual-motor electric running gear that produces 603 horsepower, drawing electrons from a 102.0-kilowatt-hour battery. The combination is good for a 600-kilometer (372-mile) range, and the Emeya is capable of up to 402-kilowatt DC fast charging, meaning it’ll take 14 minutes to go from 10 to 80 percent on a suitable power source. And while the prospect of a 603-hp cop car might seem like overkill, the Dubai Police actually exerted some temperance since it’s the base powertrain for the Emeya – overkill would’ve been the 905-hp Emeya R, which hits 60 mph in 2.8 seconds compared to the S trim’s 4.2 seconds. Unfortunately, the new Dubai cop car doesn’t really adhere to Lotus’ typically lightweight specs – it weigh in at around 5,600 pounds before any added police equipment.

Other Wild Police Vehicles

The all-electric Lotus is nowhere near the most insane law enforcement vehicle in the tony Middle Eastern city. Dubai is also home to a police-spec Mansory Rolls-Royce Cullinan SUV, a Lamborghini Urus Performante, and a wild SUV built by W Motors called the Ghiath. Speaking of, the United Arab Emirates capital of Abu Dhabi uses a W Motors Lykan Hypersport supercar as part of its law enforcement fleet, all the better to overtake fleeing Vin Diesels and Paul Walkers. The moral of the story should be – don’t run from the cops if you happen to be in the United Arab Emirates.

And we thought American LEOs were lucky because they drove Hemi-powered Durangos. The wildest cop car we have in our country is probably Las Vegas’ new Tesla Cybertruck, and for most of us, that’s not nearly as cool as a Lykan Hypersport or a Lotus Emeya.
