Lost DoorDash Driver Somehow Ends Up On O’Hare Airport Tarmac

  • A lost DoorDash driver entered the tarmac at O’Hare International Airport over the weekend.
  • The driver was eventually stopped by security near a United Airlines plane at Gate C16.
  • The incident is now under investigation, but the driver was released without charges.

Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport was among the ten busiest in the world last year as it handled 776,036 “aircraft movements,” which made it second only to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. However, the hub of the Windy City recently experienced a stunning security lapse.

According to CBS Chicago, a lost DoorDash driver managed to get through secured areas and enter the airport grounds. Once inside, he allegedly “drove miles along the interior and restricted roads at O’Hare.”

The station says the vehicle was eventually spotted around noon on Saturday. Security was called and the driver was stopped on the tarmac near a plane at Gate C16.

While it’s shocking that an unauthorized driver and vehicle could get close to a plane, authorities reportedly determined the 36-year-old man was simply lost and accidentally drove into a secured area. Given this was an apparent mistake, the driver reportedly wasn’t charged or cited.

Needless to say, there are a lot of questions and those involved aren’t looking good. That likely explains their relative silence, although a follow up story from the station reveals approximately 16 minutes passed between when the car entered a restricted area and when police were called.

In a statement, the Chicago Department of Aviation told the station that “there were no operational disruptions or safety incidents” due to the incident. However, things could have turned out much worse if this wasn’t a lost DoorDash driver.
