Two-Door Ford Maverick? Designer Reveals The Model Ford Needs To Build

Two-door trucks have sort of fallen out of fashion as work trucks now need to double as family transportation. But that hasn’t stopped digital design artist Abimelec Design from imagining what a two-door Ford Maverick might look like if it were inspired by Ford’s hero pickup trucks from the 90s, including the SVT Lightning. Now, Ford’s probably never going to build a two-door Maverick, but maybe it should reconsider that stance once it takes a look at these renders…

The SVT Lightning-Inspired Street Truck

In a series of Facebook posts, Abimelec has shown off two versions of his two-door Maverick concept. The first leans heavily on the street truck vibe, but makes the new Maverick Lobo look tame. Heavily inspired by the Ford SVT Lightning of the 1990s and early 2000s, Ford’s original performance pickup before the Raptor was a thing, this version of the Maverick is slammed to the ground, rides on massive Apex wheels, and has a bespoke body kit with body color fender flares and a low front bumper with integrated fog lights. It may be based on the pre-facelift Maverick, but it looks darn good.

2025 Ford Maverick First Drive Review: The Truck You Didn’t Know You Needed

The Ford Maverick gets a refresh for 2025, including a new street truck trim which we got to experience first-hand.

“This was obviously *heavily* inspired by the SVT Lightning of the early ‘00s. The extra rear doors are gone, the wheelbase was shortened, the bed extended, the rear portion of the cab re-arranged, as well as the top plastics of the bed, the sideskirts were extended, the bed and tailgate were narrowed to make it look like a flare side bed, the tailights were re-shaped, a power-bulge was added to the hood, and the whole front fascia was redesigned, inspired by the 2nd generation SVT Lightning.”

Since these are just figments of one person’s imagination, there’s no detail on what may power the truck, but the Maverick is hardly lacking on that front, especially in AWD form. When facelifted, Ford seemingly dropped the power of the 2.0-liter turbo Maverick from 250 horsepower to 238, but later confirmed that the 250-hp figure was reinstated. For its price, it’s one of the best bang-for-buck horsepower bargains in America.

Two-Tone Looks And Steelies

As a follow-up, Abimelec used a slightly different truck as inspiration. “I’ve always loved the old Eddie Bauer and King Rach F150s, so I decided to give the single-cab Maverick a ‘90s makeup with a very period two-tone paintjob, chrome steelies, a lift, fiberglass side steps, and chrome bumpers.” The result of this second truck is something far more rugged; a true workhorse by comparison. It nevertheless looks equally as appealing as the SVT Lightning version.

Both look like trucks we’d love to see in our nearest Ford showrooms, or better yet, in our driveways. Of course, that won’t happen, but that won’t stop us from appreciating what Abimelec has done here.
