Not Even An Accident And 3K Miles Could Stop This Porsche From Selling For $36K Over MSRP

  • A Porsche 911 has just proved itself depreciation-proof at auction.
  • The 2023 GT3 Touring sold for $36k over MSRP on Bring a Trailer.
  • It achieved that price despite having received a $32k crash repair.

We’ve reported multiple times on how the bottom has fallen out of the market for Dodge’s Last Call muscle cars. Chargers and Challengers people bought and squirreled away hoping to make a few bucks down the line are now worth less than they were when new. Yet at the same time on the same auction sites people are paying way over MSRP for Porsches of an identical vintage that have led much tougher lives.

Take this 2023 Porsche 911 GT3 Touring which sold this week on Bring a Trailer. Someone did take it and they paid $265,000 for the privilege, which isn’t only far in excess of the $229,000 the 992.1-gen car cost the seller a couple of years back; it’s also $40,250 more than the base price of a brand new 992.2 Touring.

Used, But Not “Well-Used”

And this was no mothballed trailer queen. Yes, it looks to be in beautiful condition, but it has been used, the seller clocking up 3,000 miles (5,000 km) during his ownership. Its history record isn’t blemish-free, either. The Carfax report lists a 2024 accident which the seller says in the comments below the listing was “just a bumper.”

While it’s true that the nudge wasn’t structural and looks pretty minor in the one picture we have of the damage, it still resulted in a scary $32,000 bill to cover parts and labor to fix. And though it’s now good as new, meaning it shouldn’t matter, the fact that the accident is on the record will come up again down the line when the new buyer wants to sell.

The Spec That Justifies the Price

But maybe the new owner simply loved the spec of this Touring, and who could blame him? It’s a manual, for one, and it comes with a ton of choice options that you definitely don’t get as standard in the brand new zero-options $224,750 Touring we referenced earlier – presuming you can even get a Porsche dealer to sell you one.

Ordered in M7K Arctic Gray with metallic bronze vinyl side stripes and Porsche script, it came equipped with a carbon roof, $10k of PCCB carbon brakes, a nose-lift and a Bose surround-sound stereo. But the highlight has to be the bucket seat interior, which was treated to an Exclusive Manufaktur upgrade that features plaid centers. Those options and a few more besides inflated the base GT3’s $169,700 price to $229,070 including destination.

} else {

}
});

The $265k this 911 achieved on Bring a Trailer is nothing unusual for these GT3s, which routinely sell for far more than they cost when new. But given that there are always examples to choose from, would the minor bump in the history put you off this GT3, or would you not care knowing that it had been properly repaired?
