Ever Wonder What A Perfectly Preserved ‘80s Family Car Looks Like?

  • This Crown Victoria has has only been driven 35,000 miles and is fully original.
  • Power comes from a 4.9-liter Winsdor V8 paired to a four-speed automatic.
  • Extensive wood paneling gives the classic Ford wagon an awesome retro feel.

The station wagon, once the go-to family ride, has all but disappeared in most major markets, including North America thanks to the unstoppable rise of SUVs. But for anyone feeling nostalgic for the days when the family car didn’t have a raised suspension and massive tires, here’s something that should spark some fond memories.

This 1985 Ford LTD Crown Victoria Country Squire (what a name, right?) listed for sale through Hagerty’s Marketplace is a pristine example of what once was, and it’s probably one of the lowest-mileage Crown Vics still driving around.

The seller shares a charming backstory about the car, which was the flagship version of the LTD Crown Vic series: their parents bought the car new, and it’s been kept in a garage since 2021. The seller’s dad, a mechanic, took care of all the maintenance and repairs, so this car has clearly been looked after throughout the years.

Despite its age, it’s only been driven about 35,000 miles ( ~56,300 km), has never been involved in an accident, and is completely original. If you’re hunting for an untouched slice of automotive history that hasn’t gone stale from storage, this is as close as it gets.

The wood paneling of this Crown Vic denotes it as a Country Squire model and gives it a very unique look that you simply can’t replicate with any modern station wagon or SUV. The paneling extends down both sides of the car and stretches across the rear fascia.

Step inside, and you’re greeted by an interior that’s straight out of a velvet dream – or nightmare, depending on your taste. It’s plush-looking front and rear seats are drenched in deep burgundy upholstery. The cargo area holds two extra seats, though unlike the modern three-row vehicles, they are positioned sideways. Maybe not the safest option in the event of an accident, but par for course at the time.

As a 1985 model, the wagon is powered by Ford’s 4.9-liter naturally aspirated Windsor V8 that is mated to a four-speed transmission. Obviously, fuel efficiency isn’t this car’s strong suit, but as far as classic spacious family cars that will happily chew up highway miles go, this is a very fine option.

However, we’d be surprised if anyone ends up buying it to use as a family car. In all likelihood, a Crown Viv enthusiast will snap it up and add it to their collection of vintage treasures. Could that be you? If you’re interested, you can check out the listing over at Hemmings here and see if it would fit nicely in your garage.
