It’s easy to sport a TRD Pro series vehicle on the road. These Toyota-badged models have more chiseled exterior designs, upgraded suspension setup, and performance dual-exhaust systems. Available for the 4Runner, Tacoma, Tundra, and Sequoia, the range-toppers are also known for their unique TRD Pro signature paint jobs that the automaker introduces year by year. For 2026, Toyota has introduced the Wave Maker, and we’re pretty sure you won’t guess what this color is based on.

The Newest Hero Color Differs From Before
Developed by the company’s Calty Design team, Toyota said that the new hue represents a shift from earlier earth-toned TRD Pro colors like Terra and Mudbath, which were rooted in traditional landscapes. For the Wave Maker, Benjamin Jimenez, general manager at CALTY’s Ann Arbor location, said that it’s “inspired by unexplored areas of adventure including extreme territory and even beyond earth.”

So, yes, it appears that Calty has turned its attention to something extraterrestrial with this new color scheme, expressing “an elemental spirit that evokes images of glacial depths and the thrill of new frontiers,” Jimenez added. We’re not sure what to make of those two quoted phrases, but at least they provided a lot of images to represent their words.
Landing On Toyota TRD Pro Models Later This Year
The new Wave Maker paint color comes with a light blue hue, almost looking like something you’ll see on a Lamborghini. It appears to be inspired by bodies of water or the sky instead of something extraterrestrial. We’re guessing the former inspired the name, but we’re pretty sure the vehicles that will wear the new color won’t be swimming in the water any time soon.

The new Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro sells for $12,000 more than the previous generation TRD Pro V6. Is is worth the extra cash?
The Wave Maker is the unique TRD Pro color since Toyota launched the line in 2015. The annual tradition began with the color Inferno, which became an instant hit, according to Toyota. Unlike previous signature colors that come with an interesting story, the Wave Maker doesn’t have one – except for the ones mentioned that we’re still trying to figure out.
Toyota TRD Pro’s new Wave Maker hero color will be available as a no-cost option for 2026 model year versions of its biggest models in the lineup. It’s expected to arrive at dealerships this fall.
