Jeep modification specialist GR8TOPS is teasing a new solution for overlanding enthusiasts: the JPOD, or Personalized Overlanding Den. Currently in the prototype phase, the JPOD is a compact camper box designed to mount onto any Wrangler Unlimited that has undergone the company’s JTRUK single-cab pickup conversion, a vehicle that it says fills the gap between the Wrangler and the Gladiator.
This innovative concept offers a unique approach for Wrangler owners seeking an integrated overlanding setup beyond traditional rooftop tents or towed trailers.

Revealed earlier this year, the JPOD aims to provide a customizable living space attached directly to the modified Jeep platform. Initial details suggest the camper shell measures approximately seven feet long, six feet wide, and four feet tall. While final specifications are pending, the South Carolina-based company indicates the interior is intended as a do-it-yourself space, allowing owners to tailor it to their needs. Potential features mentioned include integrated storage, a pull-out sofa bed, climate control options, a small refrigerator, and an exterior canopy.
Integrating The Overlanding Den
Unlike the relatively straightforward JTRUK cab installation, fitting the JPOD does require cutting into the Jeep’s original bodywork, although modifications to the vehicle’s frame are reportedly not necessary. The bare camper pod itself weighs approximately 475 pounds. According to GR8TOPS, despite the added weight and necessary body removal for the initial JTRUK truck conversion, the final vehicle should remain safely within its gross vehicle weight rating.

GR8TOPS is also planning to incorporate a small pass-through window between the main driving cab and the JPOD camper area. The company emphasizes this window is intended primarily for airflow (potentially useful when traveling with pets) or for providing visibility inside the camper. It is not designed as a climb-through access point, partly due to practicality limitations between the front seats and liability, as the JPOD is explicitly not intended for passengers while the vehicle is in motion.
As the JPOD is still being finalized, pricing and a complete feature list are not yet available. However, GR8TOPS has a registration link for interested customers to receive updates.
The JTRUK Foundation
The JPOD relies on the prior installation of GR8TOPS’ JTRUK conversion kit. This kit transforms a four-door Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (JKU models from 2007-2018 or JLU models from 2018-present) into a two-door, single-cab pickup truck. The JTRUK kit itself involves adding a fiberglass cab back and requires sourcing a separate, divorced truck bed – typically a six-foot Ford Ranger bed, or a custom-built flatbed.

The JTRUK cab kit alone ranges from $4,900 to $5,400 and is designed for relatively easy installation without frame, fuel line, or brake line modifications. No cutting of the actual frame is required, but the body is cut off. GR8TOPS also offers turnkey JTRUK installations starting around $11,500.
