• The Renault Boreal has been spied ahead of its debut in Brazil later this year.
  • The prototype is heavily camouflaged, but appears to be based on the Dacia Bigster.
  • A key part of Renault’s International Game Plan 2027, the Boreal will be offered in 70 markets.

Renault recently confirmed their upcoming C-segment SUV will be called the Boreal and spy photographers have now caught the upcoming model. It’s scheduled to debut in Brazil later this year and be offered in more than 70 markets outside of Europe.

While the crossover is heavily disguised, it appears to be a Renault-ified version of the Dacia Bigster. However, this isn’t just a simple rebadge as the model features a unique grille with a prominent Renault emblem. Further below, there’s a new bumper with a wider intake.

The sides are misleading as the prototype appears to be equipped with fake rear door handles. That’s a clever bit of misdirection as the Bigster – and presumably Boreal – has hidden handles that are integrated into the C-pillar trim.

Elsewhere, we can see plastic body cladding and pronounced wheel arches. They’re joined by a modified rear bumper and a unique spoiler that eschews a dip in the center. We can also expect new taillights and a lightly revised liftgate.

Spy photographers didn’t get a look inside, but the cabin should largely carryover. This means we can expect a minimalist interior with a 10.1-inch infotainment system as well as a 7- or 10-inch digital instrument cluster.

Engine options remain unconfirmed, but the European model offers an assortment of choices including an entry-level 1.2-liter three-cylinder mild hybrid with 128 hp (96 kW / 130 PS). Customers can also can a full hybrid, which has a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine as well as a combined output of 153 hp (115 kW / 155 PS).
