Toyota’s Crown Signia Turned Into The Wagon It Was Always Meant To Be

T-Demand transforms the “SUV” into a low-slung wagon with an aggressive stance, air suspension, and new wheels

Toyota’s Crown Signia Turned Into The Wagon It Was Always Meant To Be

  • Japanese tuner T-Demand worked on a Toyota Crown Estate, giving it a slammed stance.
  • The build includes suspension upgrades, increased camber, and aftermarket alloy wheels.
  • T-Demand offers similar kits for the entire Crown lineup, including the Sport and Sedan.

Despite its name, the Toyota Crown Estate, which is marketed as the Crown Signia in North America, might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of a stanced, low-slung performance vehicle. In fact, it’s equipped with a high-riding suspension that’s become synonymous with crossovers and SUVs.

But that’s exactly what T-Demand, the Japanese tuning company, is looking to change with a new package that brings suspension upgrades and aftermarket wheels to the table.

T-Demand isn’t exactly known for its subtlety. In fact, the company has built a reputation for practically slamming Toyota models to the ground, and the Crown series is no exception. The latest victim, or, depending on how you see it, lucky beneficiary, is this Crown Estate, worked over by the crew at Man’z Factory, a tuning shop based in the Japanese city of Sabae.

A New Look, New Feel

This Crown Estate build is equipped with a full air suspension system, including a “Hard Line Wing a V8 System Alt-023” setup in the boot. The system comes paired with new suspension arms and dampers, giving the car a drastically lower ride height. Camber has been increased too, though not to the extreme levels we’ve seen with other builds.

Underneath the car, you’ll find a new set of 21-inch SSR wheels. These have the same diameter as the stock wheels but are notably wider and wrapped in low-profile tires. And because no tuning job is complete without more braking power, the tuner has added larger 380 mm (15-inch) brake discs along with branded calipers to keep things under control.

The significantly lowered ground clearance and new wheels give the Toyota Crown Estate the appearance of a true performance wagon. Looking at the shape of the greenhouse and rear end, it’s clear that the original designers likely had something sleek in mind.

As for the powertrain, well, there’s no word on any changes there. The HEV badge on the tailgate tells us that this Crown Estate likely has a self-charging hybrid hybrid setup. In stock form, the Crown Estate’s naturally aspirated 2.5-liter engine, paired with dual electric motors, churns out a combined 243 hp (181 kW / 246 PS). Power is routed to all four wheels through an eCVT. So, no surprise here, as the hybrid powertrain remains as it is.

The Price of Style

Now, let’s talk numbers, because you know this kind of transformation doesn’t come cheap. The Hard Line Wing a V8 System Alt-023 alone will set you back ¥1,128,000 ($7,835), excluding taxes. And that’s before you even start adding in the cost of the dampers, suspension arms, brakes, wheels, and tires.

As for the donor vehicle, the hybrid Toyota Crown Estate currently starts at ¥6,350,000 ($44,100) in Japan, while the US-spec Crown Signia carries an MSRP of $43,790.

T-Demand hasn’t stopped at just the Crown Estate. The company has also worked its magic on the Toyota Crown Sport, the Crown Sedan, and even the Crown Crossover. With the Estate now getting its turn, T-Demand has left its mark on the entire Crown lineup.
