Audi isn’t looking so hot in the face of new U.S. tariffs, with no localized production of its models anywhere in the country. On top of that, global sales this quarter were down 3.4% compared to a year ago, and that’s only going to get worse now that there’s an additional tariff charge on the vehicles Audi wants to sell, which means prices could go up, and demand will likely shrink even further.
There are no good short-term solutions for Audi, it seems, but that doesn’t mean the company can’t still be proactive about future models like the Q4, the Q6, and the Q8, which it now reportedly plans to bring to the U.S. in some capacity.

Audi Has Friends In The Right Place
AutoNews reports that the next-gen version of the Q4 model, if it’s still called that or not, could share the production floor of VW’s Chattanooga, Tennessee factory that currently builds the VW ID.4 electric SUV, which shares the MEB platform with the Q4 e-Tron already.
Audi is reportedly still searching for a home for its Q6 SUV in the U.S. as well, but has potentially found space for its biggest Q8 SUV at the plant Scout is building in Blythewood, South Carolina. The Blythewood, SC plant is said to have an operational capacity of building as many as 200,000 cars per year once it’s fully set up.

Nothing has been confirmed by Volkswagen Group or Audi yet, as plans could still be up in the air, considering tariff policies are still shifting. However, it seems there are definitely ongoing discussions within the group. Here’s what a spokesperson offered AutoNews when asked about US production:
“We want to increase our presence in the US. We are currently examining various scenarios. We are confident that we will be able to decide on the specific details in consultation with the Group before the end of this year.”
Audi’s Future Plans Are Bold
Audi has previously stated there are current plans to introduce 10 new models over the coming years in the U.S., with production decisions due by the end of the year. Three of those new models are likely next-gen, potentially all-electric versions of the Q4, Q6, and Q8. A competitor from Mercedes-Benz, the GLC, will reportedly also now be built in the U.S. from 2027.

The Audi A8 and Q8 could be very different beasts by the end of the decade.
Audi is part of the broader Volkswagen Group conglomerate of European automakers, and it’s also behind the relaunch of the once-American Scout Motors off-road SUV and truck brand.
While Audi may not have any production in the U.S., its partnered companies like Volkswagen proper and eventually Scout Motors will have plenty of additional capacity at their respective plants in the U.S. That’s now likely the plan for Audi, but with an uncertain time ahead, any plans could change.
