Is This Ram’s Compact Truck for America?

Ram has been toying with the idea of a smaller pickup in America for nearly a decade. But if these recent patents are any indication, we could see the long-awaited Rampage (or whatever it may be called) make its debut in the US sometime soon. Maybe. Hopefully.

According to details uncovered by Mopar Insiders, Ram has reportedly secured a patent for a compact truck in the US. The patent, which was originally filed on March 16, 2023, was officially granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on April 22, 2025.

The patented design looks nearly identical to the compact Rampage sold in markets like Argentina, Brazil, and most of South America. Ram recently updated its pint-sized pickup for 2025 with a new gas engine and a refreshed design.

Now, this patent doesn’t necessarily mean the Rampage will come to the US as-is. Automakers regularly secure patents in specific regions for designs or nameplates they never actually intend to use. But given Ram’s recent shakeup, we’re hopeful that this means big things for a potential small Ram pickup in the US.

Former CEO Tim Kuniskis returned to the Ram brand following Carlos Tavares’s departure from Stellantis and quickly announced 25 new products in 18 months. In January, Kuniskis confirmed that the company was working on a mid-size pickup, with the UAW confirming a production start in 2027. At this year’s Detroit Auto Show, he also told us that he wants a mid-size truck “so bad.”

“Everything is more expensive,” said Kuniskis. “Trucks are way more expensive—bread goes up, you still got to eat, right? Trucks go up, you start looking for alternatives. I used to have a price point alternative with the Ram Classic. I don’t have that anymore.”

We’ll have to wait and see if this patent does indeed confirm a new compact truck in the Ram lineup for North America. But, we’re hopeful.
