Seven sets are coming this summer with prices ranging from $20 to $120

- Mattel has introduced a new, Lego-like brand known as Brick Shop.
- It’s being launched with seven kits featuring realistic looking cars.
- Each comes with a die-cast model as well as bricks to build a scale car.
Mattel is throwing down the gauntlet in the battle of the bricks by unveiling their new Brick Shop brand, and they’ve brought Hot Wheels along for the ride. The debut lineup features seven cars that are clearly aimed at giving Lego a serious run for its money.
Designed to give fans a “new way to build, customize and collect,” the Brick Shop lineup features realistic vehicles with “accurate details and proportions.” Owners will also find customization options that include real metal parts “allowing fans and collectors to recreate and personalize their favorite Hot Wheels vehicles.”

Given the Hot Wheels connection, the sets also include a 1:64 scale die-cast model. That’s a cool touch and one that fans will likely appreciate.
The sets are broken up into Speed, Elite, and Premium tiers and each has different price points. The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL is part of the range-topping Premium line and it costs $119.99. That’s steep, but buyers will get a 1:12 scale gullwing coupe with functional doors, a metal Mercedes crest, and “luxe interior detailing.”
The mid-level Elite Series costs $49.99 and consists of a classic Corvette Grand Sport, a 1990 Acura / Honda NSX, and a surf-focused 1962 Chevrolet Pickup. These 1:16 scale models come with extra parts, metal wheel covers, and licensed decals. The NSX is also notable for featuring pop-up headlights and functional steering.
That brings us to the entry-level Speed Series, which has three 1:32 scale sets that cost $19.99. Options include the Maserati MC20, Cadillac Project GTP Hypercar, and a customized 1968 Chevrolet Camaro.
The Brick Shop collection will arrive at stores this summer and select retailers are currently accepting pre-orders. Mattel’s Roberto Stanichi said the collection “delivers what car fans have been clamoring for: buildable vehicles that deliver true car authenticity.” He added their “design team meticulously recreated these vehicles in brick form while preserving what made them great in the first place, including real metal parts and a matching exclusive die-cast, giving fans a new way to collect, build, and play.”
What’s your take; are these sets a must-have, or just another flash in the pan from Hot Wheels trying to cash in on our love for cars?
