You Can Almost Buy A New M2 For The Depreciation Hit On This 4K-Mile Range Rover

  • The Range Rover P530 has a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 with 523 hp and 553 lb-ft.
  • This behemoth of a luxury SUV had an original sticker price of $191,520.
  • The SUV has plenty of options, including an $8,540 Flux Silver paint finish.

Some car brands suffer from depreciation much worse than others and while most of us typically associate high-end German cars with extraordinary levels of depreciation, new Range Rovers can almost quickly plummet in value. Case in point, a 2024 P530 Autobiography LWB that lost $56,520 after just a year and a mere 4,900 miles (7,885 km).

In the world of high-end luxury SUVs, Range Rovers have long been a favorite among buyers. Sure, JLR’s models do not, for decades now, have the best reputation for reliability, but fewer SUVs have quite the same road presence as a Range Rover. As an Autobiography LWB, this is one of the finest examples of its kind and had an original MSRP of $170,400, but this one has over $15,000 in options, bringing its total sticker price to a hefty $191,520.

The priciest option is the Flux Silver paint finish, at $8,540. It also includes $5,600 deployable side steps, 23-inch diamond turned wheels, the $1,000 shade exterior pack, a $350 heated windshield, and $1,150 Ebony Near-Aniline leather seats. As it’s been driven so little and was only purchased in March 2024, it’s only natural that it looks brand new.

While the owner may have enjoyed their time owning the extended-wheelbase SUV, the sting of $56,520 in depreciation is bound to have left them feeling a little sick in the stomach. For that amount of money, you can almost buy a new BMW M2 or a Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing, two of the finest performance cars on the market.

Being a P530 trim, this Range Rover rocks a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 with 523 hp and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque. It sends all that power to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

While the new owner may think they’ve walked away with a bit of a bargain after getting it at the Cars&Bids online auction, this SUV’s value is not even close to bottoming out. Decade-old Range Rover Autobiography SUVs are currently trading hands in the $20,000-$30,000 region, and we see no reason why this one also won’t be valued at the same ballpark in the first half of the next decade.

If this sounds like a very tempting option, though, consider that the running costs reflect the vehicle’s original price – which means they’re quite pricey. If you think you can afford them, you may proceed provided you have the funds; otherwise, a Toyota RAV4 or Honda CR-V, to name but two mainstream SUVs that won’t cost you a kidney (or both) in case something goes wrong, may be the way to go.
