2025 Rivian R1S Spotted In The Wild Revealing New Headlights

  • Prototypes of the 2025 Rivian R1S were spotted without camouflage, revealing mild exterior updates.
  • The highlight is the new LED headlights and new wheels, with the rest of the bodywork being largely carried over.
  • According to earlier information, the Standard Range Rivian R1S and R1T will switch to a new 92.5 kWh battery pack.

The facelifted Rivian R1 models are almost ready to make their big debut, with prototype sightings of the SUV revealing mild visual tweaks. What appears to be the 2025 Rivian R1S was spotted without any camouflage, flaunting its redesigned LED headlights.

The fully electric model is expected to retain the characteristic outline of the headlights, albeit with new LED graphics. The close-up photo also shows that the new clusters will be more sculpted than before, giving it a more high-tech look.

This is the second sighting of the updated Rivian R1S after another red prototype was photographed during filming in Seattle. The earlier photos were a bit blurier, but showed that the entire bodywork will be largely unchanged compared to its predecessor. The red example also was fitted with the Black Package, featuring dark trim on the bumpers, black wheels, and chrome delete on the profile.

The spy photos were uploaded on a Rivian Forums thread by user Peytonrg, gathering a lot of attention from the community. The user claims the upcoming refresh will bring “new lightning capabilities, black badges, no chrome, and silver wheel calipers”. Furthermore, he suggests that the EV will gain a heat pump, a tri-motor setup, and faster charging.

Rivian Forums

Another forum user called Canthoney claims he came across a prototype of the 2025 Rivian R1S in person a few days ago. He confirms the earlier reports adding that he noticed a new camera module for the mirrors, a “charger disconnect” button near the port, new alloy wheels, and a slimmer lightbar.

A leaked Rivian document from a couple of weeks ago included information about the technical side of the upcoming refresh. Besides the new heat pump, the highlight is a new 92.5 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack for the Standard Range models. The new battery is said to be 69 kg (152 lbs) lighter compared to the current 105.9 kWh unit.

Rivian’s own range estimates talk about 380-405 miles (612-652 km) in the city and 322-340 miles (518-547 km) on the highway depending on whether the EV rides on 20-inch or 22-inch wheels. The official EPA estimates will likely be worse.

Rivian hasn’t set a date for the debut, but the forum users believe it is one week away. While prototypes of the 2025 R1T have yet to be spotted, it is safe to assume that the updates on the truck will mirror those of its SUV twin.
