Bentley Showcases Mulliner’s Seemingly Endless Customization Options At Auto China

Key Takeaways

  • Bentley shows off four Mulliner creations at Auto China.
  • Exclusive Batur previewed in new Gloss Aquamarine Mulliner paint finish.
  • One-of-one Continental GT Convertible S revealed alongside Mulliner Bentayga and Flying Spur.
  • Bentley is introducing three Personalized Collections exclusive to the Chinese market.

Bentley has come to Auto China (Beijing Motor Show) with a quartet of exquisite bespoke models crafted by its Mulliner department, including the exceptional Batur, a one-of-one Continental GT Convertible S, and two other models. While the automaker has no new models to show off, the Chinese market is vital to the brand, with 22% of total sales coming from the region. So, showcasing Mulliner’s personalization is essential to continued success.

And there’s no greater representation of the bespoke department’s capabilities than the coachbuilt Batur, an ultra-exclusive luxury coupe limited to 18 examples. Bentley chose to display a particularly special Batur, painted in a new Mulliner exterior color called Gloss Aquamarine. As a Mulliner creation, the Batur is highly customizable, with endless colors and finishes to select from. But just because it’s a plush Bentley doesn’t mean it has to be the poster child for conspicuous consumption; the Crewe-based marque has used sustainable leather upholstery, veneers in Natural Fiber composite, and 3D-printed 18K gold to meet sustainability goals.

Anything You Want, Mulliner Can Do

While not everyone can own a Batur, the Continental GT Convertible S is more attainable and is privy to the Mulliner customization experience. Bentley unveiled a one-of-one example at Auto China, crafted especially for the Chinese market. Painted in Snow Quartz, which is said to be an “homage to the natural [colors] of ocean waves,” the drop-top sports subtle Light Celeste pinstriping on the side mirror cap covers. Inside, the leather-lined cabin takes inspiration from the “Green Room” (the barrel surfers see inside a wave) with Light Celeste and Beluga upholstery.

Bentley Rolls Out Four New Special Editions Under Mulliner Centenary Collection

The collection celebrates Bentley’s 100 years of working with its retail partner in Zurich, Schmohl AG.

The interior is finished off with a Dual Gradient Single Finish veneer of Brunel and Light Celeste, with the Piano Brunel center console adorned with Light Celeste chevron pinstripes. Other intricate details include contrasting ‘S’ emblements in the headrests. Aside from the Continental GT Convertible S, Bentley previewed available Mulliner options on a Flying Spur Azure Hybrid. The Galaxy Stone-colored luxury sedan features exclusive stone veneer, which is somewhat unusual, highlighting the lengths the automaker is willing to go to please customers. A Bentayga EWB Mulliner with a Bespoke Interior Colour Split with Linen and Imperial Blue leather highlights available hide options. It certainly looks better than the polarizing Bentayga that was commissioned last year.

Exclusive Personalized Collections For Chinese Customers

Chinese Bentley customers have a lot to look forward to in 2024, with the unveiling of three personalized collections that will only be offered in China. The Koi Carp Collection is inspired by its namesake, which “expresses good wishes for auspiciousness and prosperity in Chinese culture.” These vehicles will have six Koi Carps in the interior, with different shapes in the sill plates and backrests. The Landscapes Collection pays tribute to A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains, a famous Chinese painting portraying the beauty of China’s rivers, hills, and landscape.

Embroidered emblems on the seat backrests will represent the Chinese characters for rivers and mountains. Both of these collections are limited to eight cars. The Ru Yi Collection is even more exclusive and limited to just three vehicles. Traditional Ru Yi, a ceremonial scepter representing good fortune and power, inspired the collection. These vehicles will receive gold Ru Yi embroidery on the seat backrests. Bentley notes this is the first time Mulliner has embroidered Chinese calligraphy writing into a vehicle’s interior design, but we’re sure it won’t be the last.
