The detailed scale model is exhibited at the Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg, Germany

- A tiny car carrier with 70 Polo models debuts at Hamburg’s Miniatur Wunderland.
- The display is part of the celebrations for 50 years since the debut of the original Polo.
- The current sixth generation of the supermini will receive an extensive updated in 2025.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Polo, and Volkswagen is celebrating the legacy of its iconic supermini with a charming tribute: a miniature car carrier train, built to a 1:87 scale and fully loaded with Polo models.
The display is part of the ‘Miniatur Wunderland’ which is located in Hamburg’s Speicherstadt in Germany. The venue is widely known for its tiny exhibits including ultra-realistic buildings, cars, trucks, trains, airplanes, boats and more, making it a popular location for scale model enthusiasts.

It has 12 carriages, with a total of 70 models in various colors. The majority are of the fifth-generation that was sold between 2009 and 2017, but there is also a blue example of the first-generation from 1975. The absence of the latest generation is likely due to the limited availability of 1:87 scale versions.
The train runs through the miniature “City of Hamburg” section, which includes scaled-down landmarks like the Elbphilharmonie concert hall, the Elbe bridges, and the port. To mark the occasion, the train stations are adorned with celebratory “50 Years of Polo” billboards.
50 Years Of Polo
The Polo has been on sale for half a century, making it one of the oldest nameplates in the supermini segment and one of the most recognisable Volkswagens alongside the Golf and the Passat. It has spawned six generations that debuted in 1975, 1981, 1994, 2001, 2009, and 2017 respectively, with cumulative sales of over 20 million vehicles.
Volkswagen has confirmed that the Polo will receive an “extensive update” in 2025, marking the second facelift of the sixth-generation after the 2021 refresh. This will ensure compatibility with the stricter Euro 7 emission regulations, securing the Polo’s future in the Old Continent – at least for a few more years.
The ICE-powered supermini will be sold alongside the fully electric ID.2 and ID.1 hatchbacks when they arrive in 2026 and 2027 respectively.
