A very small part might allow the doors to fall when the owner least expects them to

- Lamborghini just recalled 27 of its hybrid supercars to fix an issue with doors.
- In some cases, the doors could fall from their upward position unintentionally.
- The automaker will replace the small but vital component at the heart of the recall.
If Lamborghinis are known for anything, it’s their doors. Scissor doors as they’re described in the industry are often simply referred to as ‘Lambo doors’ and the aftermarket is full of kits to turn just about any door into one that swings out and up just like you’ll find on a genuine Revuelto. Hopefully, those kits don’t have the same issue that 27 Lamborghini owners do. Their doors could fall at any time once in the upward position. It brings a whole new meaning to the term ‘suicide doors.’
Back in late June, the Italian automaker was in the midst of a pre-delivery test when it found an issue. One of the doors on a Revuelto had a spherical pin that came loose. Evidently, that pin wasn’t tightened properly which, in turn, allowed the door to lower when it was in the upright and fully-opened position. While the mechanism might make it appear as though holding the doors upward is an effortless exercise, the doors themselves aren’t exactly light. Should one fall it could easily harm anyone with any body parts near it.

Here’s the wildest part of this whole situation: the part responsible for holding the door up can fit in the palm of your hand. It could probably fit in a child’s hand. The diagram below shows it in position seven. It’s not the entire tube-like assembly but rather just the part at the very bottom. Lamborghini says that dealers will inspect the pins there and confirm that they’re secure and functional.
In cases where they’re found to be faulty, Lamborghini dealers will tighten them to acceptable specs or replace them altogether. Thankfully, the automaker is unaware of any injuries or accidents related to the issue. Affected owners will get a letter sometime between September 6th and the 11th says the company. Dealers were already alerted to the issue on July 21 so it’s possible that some of the cars in this recall are already fixed.
