Six years after its debut, the Onix family finally gets some meaningful upgrades

- Chevrolet Onix and Onix Plus get a facelift for the 2026 model year in Brazil.
- Subcompact duo gain a redesigned bumper and slightly tweaked headlights.
- Interior gains new digital cockpit layout and expanded list of standard kit.
Budget-friendly cars aren’t a rarity in emerging markets, but Chevrolet has taken a distinctive approach in South America and China with the Onix hatchback and Onix Plus sedan. These compact models, which slot below the Trax crossover, have just received a mid-cycle update for the 2026 model year. The refresh brings sharper styling and a tech-forward interior that gives them a more contemporary edge.
Originally launched in 2019, the current Onix and Onix Plus were due for an update, especially as they face growing competition from rivals like the VW Polo and Fiat Argo. The refreshed models keep their familiar shape but gain a redesigned front bumper with sportier grille elements and reshaped lower intakes. The headlights have been updated as well, now featuring revised internal graphics and full-LED lighting on higher trims.

Chevrolet says that the changes are not purely cosmetic as the new bumper makes it easier to “navigate ditches and ramps”, while the LED lights are 61% brighter than before. Differences with the outgoing model are more subtle at the back, with translucent taillights and a slightly more prominent rear diffuser on the hatchback.
Special Editions and RS Trim
The RS trim remains the sportiest take on the Onix hatch, adding blacked-out accents, 16-inch black alloy wheels, and a rear spoiler. Chevrolet also plans to launch a new special edition with darker trim elements to mark the brand’s 100th anniversary in Brazil, giving buyers another visually distinct option.

Inside, the cabin has received a welcome tech upgrade. A new digital cockpit combines an 8-inch digital instrument panel with an 11-inch infotainment screen, giving the dashboard a more cohesive, modern look. Standard features across all trims now include six airbags, onboard Wi-Fi, and keyless entry. Higher trims add wireless phone charging, automatic climate control, and even auto parking assist.

Under the hood, both models continue to offer a 1.0-liter flex-fuel three-cylinder engine, available in naturally aspirated or turbocharged form. The base version delivers 80 horsepower on gasoline or 82 hp with ethanol, while the turbo variant bumps those figures to 116 and 121 hp, respectively. Power is sent to the front wheels through either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.
The facelifted Chevys are already available to order in Brazil. Pricing begins at R$ 102,990 (about $18,500) for the hatchback and R$ 136,490 (around $24,400) for the sedan. Fully loaded turbocharged models with automatic gearboxes peak at R$ 106,790 (roughly $19,100).
