Ford Is Now Recalling Its Recalls To Prevent Fiery Deja Vu

  • Ford just issued two new recalls that are corrections of previous recalls.
  • In one, a pair of GT supercars needs a new software update to prevent fires.
  • In the other, a few F-150 trucks need a software update to fix trailer braking.

Ford has had an almost unbelievable number of recalls this year. By our count, it has initiated more recall campaigns halfway through this year than it did in all of 2024, though it’s still trailing last year’s tally in terms of affected vehicles.

var adpushup = window.adpushup = window.adpushup || {que:[]};
adpushup.que.push(function() {
if (adpushup.config.platform !== “DESKTOP”){
adpushup.triggerAd(“0f7e3106-c4d6-4db4-8135-c508879a76f8”);
} else {
adpushup.triggerAd(“82503191-e1d1-435a-874f-9c78a2a54a2f”);
}
});

Today, we can stack two more onto the list, but thankfully for Ford, they’re both quite small. In fact, the two recalls include just six cars in total. The cars themselves couldn’t be much more different, but their fixes are almost the same.

First, let’s talk about the pair of GT supercars that need to go back to the dealer. According to Ford, the two cars in question likely had a botched recall repair several years ago. Under recall 18S29 / 18V-707, the automaker recalled 176 GTs to fix a hydraulic line.

After a fire in Europe involving a GT, Ford concluded that the pressure in the lines that feed the rear wing was too high. If fluid leaked out, it could cause a fire. It leveraged a software update to fix the problem and offered new gaskets to customers who needed them. Evidently, two of the cars in the pool didn’t get the intended software update, so Ford is asking their owners to get the work done now.

Thankfully, the company doesn’t mention any additional fires that sparked its notice in this case. It sounds as though it caught the potential problem during a routine review of software recall remedies in late 2024.

F-150s Affected by Software Mix-Up

As mentioned above, this isn’t even the only single-digit recall Ford launched recently. The company also recalled four F-150s over a trailer brake controller issue. These trucks have a similar root problem to the GTs.

Technicians uploaded the wrong software to them, meaning that they don’t have a fix issued under a previous recall. If the controllers have the wrong software, their trailer brakes may not function at all. Just like the supercars, the pickup trucks will get that update at their local dealer.
