Ineos has put its wild Grenadier concept into production following an enthusiastic response from its customers

The Most Expensive Grenadier Ever Is Built To Crush Anything In Its Path

  • Ineos and off-road specialist Letech have created the ultimate version of the Grenadier.
  • The off-roader is fitted with portal axles, beefier tires, a roof rack, and other accessories.
  • The Grenadier Trialmaster X Letech starts at around €170,000 ($199,000) before taxes.

For drivers who demand more than just off-road competence, the latest version of the Ineos Grenadier arrives with a serious set of upgrades, and a price tag to match. With increased ground clearance, portal axles, and a full suite of rugged accessories, this upgraded model is designed for truly demanding terrain. The overhaul is carried out by German specialist Letech, resulting in a vehicle built to handle conditions few others can.

The idea started with a beefed-up Grenadier concept that debuted at the Goodwood Festival of Speed last year. Following an enthusiastic response from customers with over 1,000 registrations of interest and “numerous from rescue services, aid agencies and other commercial fleets operating vehicles in extreme environments”, Ineos and Letech decided to offer a production version.

When Being Good Ain’t Good Enough

The original concept was based on the Quartermaster pickup, but the same treatment has now been applied to the Grenadier Station Wagon. The highlight is the heavy-duty five-link front and rear suspension with portal axles and offset wheel hubs.

In combination with the 37-inch BF Goodrich Mud Terrain tires, the ground clearance has been increased by 186 mm (7.3 inches) to an impressive 450 mm (17.7 inches). As a result, the vehicle has a wading depth of 1,050 mm (41.3 inches) making it pretty much unstoppable.

According to the company, the new setup results in a “wider footprint, optimised weight distribution, greater wheel travel and improved axle articulation”, making the Grenadier more capable in “deep sand, severely flooded terrain or extremely rocky environments”.

From the outside, the Grenadier Trialmaster X Letech gives off a “bigfoot” vibe, reminiscent of the Mercedes-AMG G63 4×4 Squared. It rolls on 18-inch forged beadlock alloy wheels with extended fenders to accommodate the wider track. Additional gear includes a front-mounted winch, running boards, roof-mounted LED spotlights, and a roof rack outfitted to carry items like the Maxtrax Sand Ladder Kit.

At the back, the Station Wagon has a new spare wheel carrier and a rear ladder providing access to the roof. On the other hand, the Quartermaster can be fitted with a lockable Loadspace Drawer Box and LED rear working lamps. Inside, we find leather upholstery, heated front seats, a Premium sound system, Safari windows, privacy glass, and carpet floor mats. Furthermore, equipment can include an integrated Tyre Pressure Control System.

The drivetrain has been carried over from the standard Grenadier. This means buyers have a choice between the BMW-sourced turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engines running on gasoline or diesel. The special Grenadier has a towing capacity of 3,500 kg (7,716 lbs) and a payload of up to 642 kg (1,415 lbs) for the Quartermaster pickup.

A Look at Letech

Letech GmbH, based in Stuttgart, is known for restoring and customizing classic off-road vehicles, along with developing specialized low-volume models and accessories. Its partnership with Ineos began in 2021, when it became an official Grenadier sales and service partner.

The company sources vehicles directly from Ineos’ Hambach plant in France. From there, Letech installs the full package of upgrades in-house before delivering them to customers.

Availability and Pricing

Ineos is already accepting orders for the Grenadier Trialmaster in Germany, and according to the brand’s CEO, Lynn Calder, availability of the Letech-enhanced Grenadier will “quickly expand to other key markets”.

As for the price, the Trialmaster X Letech Station Wagon starts at approximately €170,000 ($199,000) before VAT and local taxes. The Quartermaster pickup adds roughly €1,000 ($1,200) more. That makes this the most expensive Grenadier to date, edging out even last year’s limited-edition Detour, which came with a notably upscale interior.
