AC’s GT Supersport Is A 1,025 Horsepower Welcome To America Party

Last month, the classic British brand AC Cars announced that it had a pair of US dealers and that it was building cars set to hit the road in America. It was a big deal, and it marked the first AC model to be officially offered in the US since 1963. With a Mustang-sounding 5.0-liter V8 for power, they should be lively machines. But there’s now something way beyond lively.

AC’s return to the US is worthy of celebration, or at least worthy of a special edition. So AC plans to deliver with the AC GT Supersport: A 1,025 monster that will be limited to just 25 copies. And each copy of the AC GT Supersport will be tailored specifically to its new owner.

GT Supersport Is Mad Even By Cobra Standards

AC Cars, which calls itself Britain’s oldest car brand, launched the AC GT Roadster in 2023. The car, which looked a lot like the models that made it famous in the 1950s, was fully modern underneath. That car arrived with a 5.0-liter V8 that made 454 horsepower in base form or 654 horsepower if you opted for the supercharged model.

The company expanded the lineup a year later with a four-cylinder. The baby Cobra makes just shy of 400 horses from its four-pot, which is both neat that it matches the 427 Cobras that made the car so iconic, and yet a touch disappointing that a four-banger compares with the old side-oiler.

We’re not trolling you.

What won’t be disappointing is the AC GT Supersport’s power output. AC didn’t say what its engine plans were, but it did say that it would offer up to 1,025 horses. That’s a lot of horsepower for a Coyote V8, even one that’s had buckets full of cash thrown at it. It’s pure speculation on our part, but the Dodge Challenger Demon 170’s blown 6.2 just happens to make exactly that amount when using E85. And Dodge sells the Demon 170 V8 as a crate engine.

Limited Edition Gets New Panels, Too

AC has gone over more than just the engine. The car has enhanced bodywork to deliver better aero performance. It also comes with a wider track for better stability and high-speed cornering grip. Plus there’s a giant rear wing that looks like it came straight from the aero upgrades in Forza Motorsport versus a real car. But, it looks meaner and should be astonishingly quick. That’s what you want from AC Cars, and that’s what the brand seems ready to deliver.

Along with the changes we’ve already covered, AC plans to add three “bold livery options that typify the traditions of America.” No, we’re not sure what that includes either, but we’ve asked. The cars start at $550,000, close to double the price of a standard AC GT, and owners will be able to customize them well beyond that figure.

If you want one of the 25, give AC a shout. It will give priority to buyers who are already in the queue for a standard GT, but there could still be some left at the end of it all.

Britain’s oldest carmaker just set up shop in Florida.

AC builds and develops its cars in the UK and Germany. The company’s US headquarters is in West Palm Beach, and it said it expects the US to be its largest market. AC’s early Ace, launched in 1953, was a sports car with an aluminum body and a wood frame (think Morgan, not Flintstones). It was powered by some typically dull tiny European engines until Carroll Shelby learned about the car. He stuffed a Ford V8 in one, went racing, and the rest of the Cobra story is now legend.
