Trump’s Tariffs Just Made Mitsubishi SUVs More Expensive

  • Mitsubishi is expected to increase prices by an average of 2.1% starting on Wednesday.
  • This means customers can likely expect to pay several hundred dollars more.
  • The price increases only apply to new shipments, so buying off the lot could save you money.

Tariff-related price hikes are becoming a common occurrence and we can add another automaker to the list. This time it’s Mitsubishi, which is said to be increasing prices by an average of 2.1%.

}
});

Reuters is reporting the price hike goes into effect tomorrow and the automaker said it is a “direct result of our regular and ongoing review of pricing in order to ensure we are in-line with segment expectations.” The publication is also reporting the increase isn’t retroactive and won’t apply to vehicles already on dealer lots.

While we don’t have a detailed pricing breakdown, the Outlander currently starts at $29,645. A 2.1% increase would push the price up to $30,268 for an increase of $623.

The smaller Eclipse Cross begins at $26,545, so it could become roughly $557 more expensive. That means the model would start at $27,102.

Both examples are notable hikes, but it’s likely that Mitsubishi is absorbing the brunt of the tariff impact. If that’s the case, further price increases could be possible.

While only time will tell what happens, Mitsubishi suspended deliveries to dealers in the wake of Trump’s 25% tariff on automotive imports. Deliveries resumed last week, which suggests the automaker might have given up hope that the tariff situation would be resolved in a timely fashion.

Regardless of what’s going on behind the scenes, Mitsubishi follows in the footsteps of Ford, Subaru, and Ineos. The Blue Oval recently hiked prices on the Mexican-made Maverick, Bronco Sport, and Mustang Mach-E by up to $2,000. Subaru, on the other hand, instituted increases of $750 to $2,055 on most models.
