This NHL Legend’s Supercar Is Practically Frozen In Time

  • Wayne Gretzky’s 2006 Ford GT Heritage Edition is up for auction with 1,200 miles.
  • Features a Gulf livery, #99 roundels, and factory-original condition with zero mods.
  • It’s powered by a 5.4-liter V8 making 550 hp and paired to a six-speed stick shift.

Sporting heroes don’t get much more legendary than the great Wayne Gretzky, widely considered the best NHL player of all time. And, just in time for the Stanley Cup finals, a 2006 Ford GT Heritage Edition once owned by Gretzky is up for auction. Fittingly, the orange and blue Gulf livery of the car isn’t dissimilar to the colors of the Edmonton Oilers that he played with for several seasons.

Ford built just 343 examples of the GT Heritage Edition, and this is number 195. While Gretzky has more than enough money to have driven the car without worrying about depreciation, it doesn’t seem as though he spent much seat time in it, as it has just 1,200 miles on the clock. For Ford GT enthusiasts, it might be just about perfect.

Factory Fresh, Celebrity Proven

The Bring a Trailer listing notes that the entire car is wrapped in paint protection film and it’s completely original, without any aftermarket parts. That means it continues to sit on the same forged BBS wheels it left the factory with. Fittingly, it has white #99 roundels on the sides and the hood, which was Gretzky’s playing number during his illustrious NHL career.

Inside, the cabin shows almost no signs of wear. The Ebony leather seats are in excellent condition, and the dashboard and steering wheel appear just as well preserved. It’s more or less a time capsule, albeit one with a famous previous owner.

Like all first-gen GTs, this one is powered by a 5.4-liter supercharged V8 good for 550 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque. It’s paired with a six-speed manual that sends power to the rear wheels, delivering the raw, analog performance that made the mid-2000s GT a standout among modern supercars.

Whether this car’s celebrity ownership will actually boost its value is still up in the air. Back in February, RM Sotheby’s sold a similar 2006 GT Heritage Edition with just 2,200 miles for $703,500. Bidding on Gretzky’s example is already closing in on that figure. If you’re feeling lucky—or just want to say you outbid someone for Gretzky’s old ride, you can place your bid over here.
