Listen To The Most Beastly Lamborghini Urus Tackling The Nurburgring

Lamborghini, in a number of ways, has the king of VW Group’s premium performance SUVs. The Urus SE, with it’s twin-turbo hybrid V8 makes the most horsepower of the group. It has the highest top speed. Lamborghini is not, however, a company to rest on its laurels, and that’s evident by a prototype example of the SUV that’s been out testing. It seems to be an even hotter version of the SE, and thanks to the video below from the CarSpyMedia channel on YouTube, we get our first sense of what it will sound like.

It’s Surprisingly Mellow

For what’s seemingly going to be the ultimate version of the ultimate performance SUV, this SE, which we’ll call SE Performante from here on, doesn’t sound overly rowdy. It has a nice, low, rumbly sound from the presumed twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8, but it doesn’t sound any louder or more raucous than the standard SE. It also doesn’t wear any add-on silencers to quiet it down like some test vehicles need to meet local sound regulations. So, at the very least, this super Urus will still be quite civilized, and it raises some questions about whether any changes have been made to the engine at all, or if this will primarily involve chassis upgrades.

What The SE Performante Is Building On And Changing

At the moment, the Urus line-up really only consists of the SE, having dropped both the S and the Performante, which used less powerful, non-hybrid engines. Because of the SE’s impressive numbers, it has been able to fill the roles of those models, but people always want more. The hybrid powertrain is an excellent place to start, as it makes 789 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. That puts it at more than 100 horsepower ahead of its cousins from Porsche and Audi, among others.

As such, it doesn’t need much more in the power department, but it could probably use some updates to the chassis, just like how the old Performante built upon the S. In fact, this new Urus seems to use that Performante’s same enlarged rear wing. Suspension changes are surely in the works, possibly even switching to steel coil springs instead of air for response and reduced weight. Weight is another thing that could use improvement, as the SE is about 700 pounds heavier than the non-hybrid versions. We’re hoping we get to see the final product soon, and we’ll be curious to see if Lamborghini decides to set a serious lap record at the Nürburgring, too.
