Some cars age into classics. Others never quite escape their predecessors’ shadow, only to find redemption years later under the warm spotlight of collector interest. The second-generation Acura NSX Type S is beginning to look like the latter. Just a week after a yellow NSX Type S sold for $32,000 over its original MSRP, another has has landed an even higher figure.

This particular NSX Type S came dressed in Thermal Orange, a striking finish that adds plenty of visual punch. From the factory, it carried a base MSRP of $169,500. The original buyer didn’t stop there, though, adding the $13,000 Lightweight Package with matching orange brake calipers, $1,500 five-spoke black wheels, $1,000 semi-aniline leather seats, and a $500 upgraded audio system. Total price? $188,495.
Serious Money for a Serious Spec
While that’s a lot of money for an Acura, it’s clear people are willing to pay much more. After being driven around 1,400 miles (2,253 km) in the past 3 years, the car was sold through Bring a Trailer, fetching an incredible $250,000. Evidently, someone really wanted to own this special piece of Acura history, no matter the cost.
To ensure the NSX was fitting of the Type S badge, Acura made several changes to the exterior, including a new front fascia with a far more aggressive grille and splitter. The rear is also more shapely, and there’s a carbon fiber hood. Speaking of carbon, the engine bay of this one is bathed in the lightweight material, adding to its exotic appeal.

Like all other NSXs, the Type S is powered by a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 supplemented by three electric motors. Standard models had 573 hp, but the Type S lifts this to 600 hp and 492 lb-ft (667 Nm). The engine is coupled to a nine-speed dual-clutch transmission and an all-wheel drive system.
From the outside, the NSX Type S looks every bit the modern supercar. Inside, though, it sticks pretty closely to Acura’s playbook. The digital instrument display is modest in size, the infotainment feels dated, and there are more than a few generic plastic buttons scattered around. On the upside, soft-touch leather and Alcantara surfaces elevate the space just enough to remind you you’re not sitting in a TLX.
